My LO suffers really badly with Ketotic hypoglycemia (nearly always ends up with a hospital admission for each episode)
If we catch her before its too late I have to offer her something high is sugar, we have found full fat fizzy coke or lucozade or any high energy drinks, once we have got that into her we offer her something which releases energy slowly such as cereal or toast.
She does have to snack all day but for us it is careful planning and to be honest we stay away from the sweets on a daily basis as they arent long lasting in energy to be honest they tend to make her worse as she has a huge sugar rush then her blood sugar drops.
I hope that kind of makes sence. How about the dextrose tablets, you could have 1 of those and then top up with something more longer lasting such as a cereal bar or yoghurt or depending where you are toast or the such like.
I think it is definately worth a trip to the dr as they may be able to eliminate things and look at everything to ensure that it isnt something else.
