  • Travelling with ryanair - help!

We are going Ireland next week for a few days to see my parents, my dad hasn't met I yet as he's too ill to travel so will be first time they've met, there may well be tears Laugh

I have checked their website and it says we can bring a collapsible pushchair free, which we have purchased as our travel systems too big and i don't want them to damage it anyway! So how does it work, do we have to check it in or can we bring it to the plane  steps and they put it on there - does anyone know? Preferably i'd like to take it to the plane steps, otherwise we have to carry Isaac about from security until we get on the plane.

Also I'm worried about his ears when we are on the plane and if it hurts, he's only 4.5 months so can't use those ear plugs, would a little cotton wool be OK do you think?  I'm also worried f he needs a change on the plane, flights like that don't have baby changing facilities do they?! I know it's only an hour and a half flight but if he has a dirty nappy, the whole plane will know by the smell lol!

Any other trips for a virgin flier with a baby much appreciated! x

I flew ryanair in june with a 3.5 yo and a 5.5 month old (on my own, eek!) Are you flying from stansted? I was told originally that i'd have to check my travel system (loola) in but actually when i got there wanting to check it in i was told to take it to the gate, when i got there they told me to take it to the plane steps.  Word of warning, the gate that I used had 2 flights of stairs but no staff thought to tell me this or help, grr. Was slightly stressed at having 2 kids, 2 bags and a travel system to get down 2 lots of stairs.

Toms ears were fine, i just fed him on take off and landing.  May have made this up but didn't think the planes went to a high enough altitude on short flights to cause too many probs.  Could you feed him instead of using cotton wool? There was babychanging on our plane in one of the toilets at the back, interesting space wise but do-able! My flight was an hour and a half too

Hope you have a nice time!

You can take the pushchair to the plane.  You have to take to check-in to have a label put on it.  As Mrs J said, at Stansted you have to carry it down two flights on stairs but I have found that most people will offer to help x

I just got back from Tenerife yesterday - we flew with Ryanair, almost 5 hours each way with 7month old and 5yr old - interesting to say the least!

We took pushchair right to plane steps both ways, and on the way back the pushchair was actually waiting for us at the plane steps when we got off!   Mr S also wore him in Beco from gate to plane steps though as it meant we could get on and get seats a lot quicker. (He wore Austin and took some hand luggage - got on plane and got us seats, whilst I collapsed pushchair at plane steps, picked up rest of hand luggage and then made my way up slowly with Aliya.  Had been advised to do this rather than pay the extra for priority boarding as if you have to get a bus to plane then priority isn't worth having.

Ryanair don't have any other types of boarding - just priority then the rest of you, so its not like Easyjet where children can board after the prioriity people, but before the rest of the passengers!

There is babychanging table above the toilet - very cramped, but still easier than changing a very tired 5yr old who managed to wet herself halfway home...<sigh>

Our flight out was fine, but on the way back the plane had no little pockets on the backs of the seats, so there was absolutely nowhere to store toys/muslins etc within easy reach.  They are horrendously strict about only having 1 piece of handluggage per person (not baby though!) so make sure you put bags within bags (if that makes sense?).  I had a large handluggage bag, but then a couple of smaller ones inside so that we could put a small chaning bag under the seat, and then another one with toys/snack as well.

Oh,and Austin's ears were fine, I fed him on takeoff and landing, and we had no problems!

    Have fun!

Not flown with Ryanair with a baby but I'd be surprised if there isn't a changing table in one of the toilets - it normally folds down from the wall.

As for his ears, don't put anything in them.  The pressure needs to equalize and putting something in them will make this harder.  Feeding on take-off landing is the best thing, r getting him to suck on a dummy / thumb.  Sounds silly but crying will also help equalize the pressure.  Most times he will be ok unless he has a cold which makes it harder.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

We have just got back from Spain wtih Ryanair. The pushchair will need a ticket/sticker when you check in your other bags and you can then take it to the plane steps. As others have said wth Ryanair its a free for all after the priority boarders, its chaos, and we had stairs at both airports. Luckily I had H with me to take R in the pushchair and a lady offered to help whilst I had the bags. They'll take the pushchiar right at the plane steps. When we landed it was a long wait for the pushchair as they went on the carosel with the other bags (and ours fell off at the start which couldn't be seen) but when we arrived back in the UK it was waiting for us when we got down the steps.

We didn't have any pockets on the back of the seats which was a real pain TBH. We were lucky that both ways we had a spare seat so could put her food, drink, muslin, toys etc on that but if we didn't have that seat it would have been a juggle. The loo I went in (both times at the front of the plane) didn't have baby changing facilities but they could well have been at the ones at the back.

With regards to ears, we just feed R as we took her and gave her milk/water so she swallowed.

    Good luck!
