So I started D on baby rice on monday, which went down a storm. I'm still expressing but my supply is dwindling so he gets a breastmilk feed every other day-ish. On monday I mixed the rice with warmed breastmilk and it was a great consistency. Yesterday I mixed it with room temperature formula and it went all lumpy and I had to add water to it. D has enfamil (anti reflux formula) - so because it's already thickened should I not use it with baby rice? Or should I have warmed the formula before mixing? wouldn't warming the formula make it even thicker? Confused

Also, today we're trying carrot. With the rice feeds I used some of the milk from his usual feed to make the rice. With this feed, should I make up a whole bottle of milk as usual or less to account for the puree?

    TIA!

    Sx

    hey Wave

I am not sure of the "correct" way but can tell you how I did it Smile to start with we made up all meals using some formula and based around baby rice.  I did warm the formula before mixing with baby rice and got it to the correct consistency through trial and error.  We then gradually introduced different flavours like carrot and banana wtih the baby rice before reducing the rice and increasing the other ingrediants.  does that make sense?  what formula was left we then offered her from the bottle and some days she would have the lot, others hardly any.  I did start early but now she is six months she is having:

Breakfast - Porridge made with formula and then the remainder, she then often has some toast [oink oink]

lunch - veg puree and a banana

Mid afternoon - 6 oz formula

Dinner - a puree of what ever I have made for us for dinner and a yogurt

    8pm - 6 oz bottle

Molly has never been a huge milk drinker and likes her food, she is also on thickened formula for reflux and we have found weaning has helped the reflux to the extent her medication has stopped Big Smile

Sorry if I have waffled Embarrassed

Thanks Nina! That's really useful - so you've had no trouble using thickened formula with baby rice? I will play around with the quantities tomorrow and see if I can work it out - I suppose the instructions on the packet are for 'normal' formula. Will try your approach with adding things into the baby rice - carrot on it's own did not go down very well at all today!  <shakes fist at Annabel Karmel>

Sounds like Molly is doing great!

    Thanks Sx

No problems but then I am not a follow the instructions type of girl Wink I am a bit more of a chuck it in and feed what looks about right, so far so good Laugh I tried Molly on just plain veg puree and she wasn't having any of it.  I think my way of thinking is they have had milk all this time so introduce a new flavour gradually.  She now eats really well and has a varied diet for her age.  As well as purees she will also eat anything you chuck on her tray and she can get in her mouth which was great fun whilst we were eating out sunday and kept her occupied whilst I ate my dinner. MIL was not impressed though that I gave her some carrot and brocoli to do as she liked with as some ended up in her bag Laugh
