i have never heard such huge trumps from a baby, long and loud.....is it something i'm eating?

  • Re: when bf which food causes wind?

There is no evidence to suggest that anything you eat actually relates to your baby's wind, as wind is trapped in the gut and isn't in breast milk. I haven't really ever connected any particular food with N's wind and he has it pretty bad at times.

However, some women do swear that what they eat affects the baby, and I know one Hitcher (can't remember who, sorry) certainly swore by cutting out onions.

I've read that it's just a myth, but also some people say cabbage, onions, dairy, lots of things. Is there anything obviuos you can link it to?

A farted all the time. Still does actually.

I've never noticed anything i've eaten affecting either of them.

It could be a bad latch or a fast let down which makes the baby open their mouth a bit so letting in more air than normal.  Both mine have done the most ridiculously loud farts from a young age and it can be quite embarassing trying to convince people it's not you - "how can such a tiny baby possibly make such a noise" Embarrassed

Everything that gives you wind, can give baby wind too - i've been told a million times (especially recently due to A's wind issues).

So - Onions, garlic, chillies, cabbage, brocolli, beans of all kinds, beer. you get the picture.

My diet has changed a LOT since A was born - never this much with J...Sad

Yes I have been told the same as Edie. Particularly brassicas eg cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower...

I avoided hot curry/chilli when I was BF'ing after being warned by a friend, but because I avoided it I don't know if it would have actually affected him. The thing that definately did was orange juice. I was drinking it but the bucket load and as soon as I stopped his wind eased. When I tried it again he reacted very obviously.

ETA when E was newborn he used to fart so... loudly! I couldn't believe something so tiny could do such a thing!

My two were sensitive to garlic. If I ate it, they were uncomfortable and windy.

Since weaning, leeks give them terrible wind!
