  • OT Anyone sold their old gold before

Just wondering really - is it worth it - I am thinking of taking my old wedding ring and engagement ring and all the jewellry my X gave me over the years and selling it to a jeweller - not the ones advertised on TV.

Just wondered whether it is worth it - I was going to give it all to Charlotte when she was 18 but she detests gold and is highly unlikely to change her mind int he next few years!

Also I would like to pay off some debt with it and every little helps

    your experiences please!

My mum sold some old and broken stuff through one of the companies on Tv ( cant remember which one though) and got cheque for about £150

But my H said they dont give you the bext price - he sold some via a company and I remember him being able to check the gold price per g every day and seeing how much it went up! Think he got about £1500 in the end. Hes at work at the mo - will ask him the name when he gets in. I know it was NOT one that was advertised on the tv

if you take it into an actual jewellers who buy you'll get a better price than the ones on tv. but take it several places and compare quotes so you get the best price.

I did! I thought I'd be happy with £50 and walked away with £180! I got two quotes and went with the highest and still bartered! She offered £150 at first, I said someone else said £170, she went to £180! Also check online and see how much gold is worth that day. x

three friends have recently done this, one got £200, one £270 and the other £450!!!

i have been meaning to go through my old jewellery and find some out to weigh in!  definately don't use the gold merchants on tv though, use a reputable jewellers.

i think my friends were paid £4.50 ish per gram?
