  • Flowers for the church.... What are you having?

    Hi Ladies

I went to see three florists yesterday to enquire about flowers for the big day... and I'm now more confused than ever about what to have for the church. Please could you tell me what you are having in the church (pew ends/alter etc) and what sort of prices you have been quoted. The pew ends might be difficult to tie flowers to so I am considering having large bows for the pew ends instead of flowers - has anyone else done this? Any other advice for the church flowers welcome.

    TIA

    Mx

My church provides 3 pedestals free of charge (they would be in the church anyway)

The other packages that they offer are:

    P1: 12 bows for pew ends £24.00

    P2: 18 bows for pew ends £36.00

    P3: 12 Flower pew ends £144.00

    P4: 18 Flower pew ends £216.00

P5: Pedestals - which can be arranged individually up to a maximum total of six. Cost per pedestal £90.00

I can bring in an outside florist but would have to pay the church £50 and have it approved by the church. They are also happy to give you the contact details of other brides having their wedding on the same day to split the cost of flowers.

Having said all of this I am getting married during lent so no flowers!!!

    Hi Mrs C

That seems a lot for pew ends bows and flowers. Think I'm swaying more towards bows. I never thought these things would be so hard!

To be honest, because we can't have them I never really looked into it...! Not the cheapest of churches either!

I'm getting married in a barn and having some arrangements up on the sides of the beams in the barn but they are the same as pew arrangements apparently. I am having them on alternate beams as they cost £40 each and couldn't justify the spend on one on every beam!

I'm also having flowers in a tin bucket type thing (rustic theme) and that is £40 too.

WE are getting married in a church, and part of the price we pay includes the arrangements at the altar.

The vicar has said that we can decorate the arch, and also the pew ends, but these will need to be removed after the wedding ready for the next wedding. This influenced our decisions as we guessed we will only be in the church for about 45 mins - 1hr, short time for what it will cost. Therefore we are only decorating the arch and this is only going to be the most basic arrangement suggested by the florist to cut costs. The original quote for french ruscus, ivory avalanche roses and lilies was going to be nearly £300 and although it would look fab, I am hardly going to see it.

If you have a chat to the church first because as some of the girls on here have said, a lot can be done to cut costs down by working with the Church's normal flower arrangements.

All church flowers need the permission of the minister, especially for the pew ends because the pews have to be protected against any damage.  Each church has different schemes but most will mean that the flowers have to stay in the church i.e, not taken onto the reception.  If there is another Bride getting married on the same day, you could share the costs between you and have neutral coloured flowers so they don't clash with colour schemes etc.

We are having a church wedding but have decided not to have any flowers or pew ends. There will be some flowers in the church anyway and for a 45 minute service when every one is going to be looking at my stunning dress Wink we didnt think it was worth the extra cost!

We arent having any flowers apart from mine and the bridesmaids bouquets. On the pew ends we are having glittery snowflakes as we are having a winter wedding.
