  • How much do you spend on nieces and nephews at Christmas?

We have 8 nieces and nephews to buy for (6 on his side, 2 on mine) and were discussing our budget the other day. He said he thought £25 each Eek and I said no bloody way am I spending a total of £200 on them. Tbh, I don't mind spending that on my own niece and nephew who me and the kids are closer to and see much more often than his sisters' children but I thought £10 to £15 would be a more reasonable amount. I know its a piece of string question but wondered how much others spend?

Stingy here but it's the same all round so no-one gets upset. Nieces and nephews get £5

I have 6 nieces and 1 newphew on my side, and H has 2 nephew and 12 niece, so that is a lot, we tend to spend £10/£15 per child. If i had less probably would spend more on each.

I would spend the same on each child and spend a bit less.

I think its a bit difficult once you get into the territory of spending more on one side of the family than the other

We only have one nephew (H's side) and budget is 15 quid. If there was that number of rellies the it would be 7-10 pounds max - ie the amount I spend on the child of a good friend for a birthday present.

I begrudge spending much on ours (one of each on H's side) as they don't appreciate it at all, never a thank you card or even a phone call. They literally have over a hundred presents from their mum. so we usually spend about £15 I suppose.

I spend 10-15 but only have 3 nephews. Its a sort of unwritten agreement. TBH I think you can get really nice presents for that sort of money though I do a bit of sale shopping. Just cleaned up in the sainsburys 50% off thing.

good luck, i wouldn't spend 25 quid either, just don't see the need tbh

We have 4 nieces and nephews and usually spend around £20 each. However this year money is tight so we won't spend as much. If I had 8 I would probably spend around £10 to £15, although it does depend on how much disposable income you have!

Thanks girls. Tbh I wouldn't be so bothered if one of my sils wasn't so mean (ie the one who got everyone to bring food to her sons' christening/holy communion) and I know it shouldn't be a factor but I am damned if I am forking out a total of £75 on her 3 while she spends about a tenner each on my 2.

NO actual nieces and nephews but our three goddaughters get around £10 each spent on them, unless I see what I want for less - like this year where I found a great Beauty and the Bib beach dress for the eldest, reduced from about £20 to £3.

I wanted to go out and change the world but I couldn't find a babysitter.

I only have 1 nephew and 1 neice (both on H's side from 1 of his 2 sisters) We will spend about £20 on each but they are a funny family and don't buy presents for adults

I have 7 nephew and nieces and spend £20 each on them, although once they turn 16 I don't buy for them anymore, I also don't buy for my sisters as I buy for the children instead so it isn't too bad.

  • Re: How much do you spend on nieces and nephews at Christmas?

We only have 2 for the moment and spend £15-£20 I suppose. That's what they seem to feel is right (they give us a list of things if we ask) and also what I'm happy with.

As a slight aside, I have no qualms about spending different amounts on different sides of the family. H has 5 siblings - they spend about £20 on each other. I have one and my mum and we spend £50-£100 on each other, so that's what we spend. Also if we had one person who spent a lot less on us, I'd probably spend less on them - but try and get things that it wasn't clear how much they were - bargain bucket dvds etc.

£15 is the limit set here, we have six nieces and nephews and I think this is a sensible amount.

I've only got one niece, my H's brother's daughter.  We spend around £10-15 on her.  I would spend more, but her parents are dreadfully unappreciative and it really bugs me, so I don't.  We're also skint, and tbh, I'd rather spend more on friends' children that I see regularly and close to, than spend lots on her *just* because we're related iyswim.
