  • will he ever be potty trained!!

My son is 3 years 4 months old, he seems to have no intention whatsoever of being potty trainedWeep

I tried in the summer (only for two days), but he was very distressed when the nappy was removed and became consipated (wee'd on the carpet , refused to sit on either the toilet or potty) so I left it a few months till today,

He accepted wearing pants without crying (progress I thought) but wee'd in them, he sat on the toilet laughed, got off and wee'd on the floor, this was the pattern for the day, till he did a poo in his pants (sat ont he toilet telling me he was doing a poo) so after four complete changes, I put him back in nappies.

He keeps saying he wants to wear nappies forever!! I have not put any pressure on, praised when he was on the toilet. But he is just not interested in the slightestHmm he can tell me when he is doing a wee/poo and asks for his nappy to be changed.

I know boys are different, but I cant help comparing him to my daughter who was potty trained at two and was so willing!!

    Help!!

hi, not sure i am much help but you are right, boys are different and all children are different so try not to compare. My son was day trained around 2yr 10m but now 3yr still has the odd accident. Without being a guru on the subject, I would persevere with the pants option and only revert to nappies at sleep time.

I read Gina Ford's potty training in a week and took a lot of tips from that, though didnt follow it to a tee - it seemed to work for me though but we had loads of accidents to start with.

I agree with bones, persevere with the pants!  It may take a few days until he 'gets' it  but it's all worth it in the end Kiss  Sounds like he's willing to try if he's sitting on the toilet and is happy to wear pants?

ben will be 3 next week and showed no real signs.  Decided to try him one day in pants and after 7 complete changes i gave up.

Breakthrough came one week when i was off work and he was told he could n't go to nursery due to a rash.  i put him in pull ups and we stayed in for 4 days !! (well apart from the garden) i asked him every 10 mins or so if he needed the toilet and by the end of day 3 he seemed to have got it.  I know that alot say not to have pull ups on but it worked for us and meant he wasnt upset if he missed out on the toilet and i wasn't constantly washing / mopping up.

He went back to nusery on the monday in pull ups with instructions for them to ask him all the time if he needed to go, on the tuesday he came back wearing pants (i actually thought the had run out of pull ups....) they decided to try him and he has been dry and clean almost every day since.

Dont give up hope, are you with him all day or his he at nursery / childminders ?   Is is possible for you to take some days off if so to dedicate to it and see what happens ?  If not give it another couple of weeks and see what happens

My daughter is 4yrs 1 month, and still the only way I can have a dry day with her is to physically make her sit on the toilet every few hours.  If I let her choose when she goes, she just goes in her knickers, regardless of how much I remind her.  She knows what she is doing, she knows when she needs a wee or a poo, she knows how to use the toilet, she knows that she should do it in the toilet, but she simply can't be bothered and I haven't found anything that she cares about enough to use as a successful incentive.

Am hoping that she'll be using the toilet before she leave home....
