  • Any people interested in Interior Design here?

    Hi all,

further to a post at the weekend, I've decided I'd like to do a course in Interior Design, just a fairly basic one to begin with, and if I like it, attend uni part-time and then get a degree etc. I'm very apprehensive about going to uni level straight off, as I've already tried uni a few times, and have had to drop out for whatever reason each time..

I was looking at doing a basic course at the local college in evening classes, but both colleges haven't had any other interest than me for the courses, so it looks as if they won't go ahead with them (one is meant to start tomorrow!). They weer very keen to still process my application, and take the payment for the course over the phone, but I can't really afford to "waste" over £200 for a course I won't get to do.. They reassured me I would get a refund if the course was pulled, but "it could take several weeks" and it would be in a cheque.. So I'd rather not go down that route..

My other option would be to do a course online; I've been told by friends that this, generally, is a No-No, but I've come across one that looks really interesting: http://www.theinteriordesigninstitute.co.uk/ . I have no idea whether it would be a waste of money, or if I'd be able to get the support I'd need (have been reassured by student department that, of course, I'd be looked after, etc etc..).

Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of online courses for creative subjects such as this, whether you'd rate them, or if I should consider going down another route?

    TIA Thanks

I would say online training for interior design was about as useful as a chocolate teapot - and that website looks all wrong - what does "copyright online education" mean anyway Laugh

I think you'd be better off doing a beginner's course at a local college or something to see if its really for you, somewhere where you can interact with others and have the scope to be creative, which you can't be on a computer!

Thanks for that AnnaBanana - I thought as much.. Trouble is, none of the colleges that I can get to are running their courses, so I'll have to wait. hmm, shame.

    Thanks again!

Dumb question from me - what about City & Guilds?  Don't they do online courses?  I'm sure my sister has just done her C&G in curtain making as an online/distance learning course...... but I could be wrong!

Thanks for that.. This was a serious post, TBH, and I must have a sudden lack of sense of humour cause I honestly didn't find that particularly funny.

I don't even know where to begin looking, so thought I'd ask the people on here, but at least now I know that I shouldn't in the future. Noted.

Oh don't be so silly.  It was a harmless and rather funny joke and not remotely at your expense.  Heavens.

It was only meant as a bit of fun.

I think you may have over-reacted slightly.
