Hi  and welcome to Hitched!  I too am partially deaf - 50% in both ears and although I have two aids, I get by pretty much all of the time by lip reading.  I normally only wear them when I'm meeting people I don't know so that I don't miss anything!  Everyone who knows me, knows to look at me when they speak.  I have a special phone that whoops up the volume at home so that makes life much easier!  I blame my deafness on all the years I went clubbing in my younger days standing next to loud speakers although it's probably a bit of old age too LOL!

hey there and welcome :)  One of my closest buddies is deaf and we met online. I went to stay with her for a week and we had such a good laugh. We were out clubbin one night and we were sitting there drinking and i'm talking away to her but i'm actually shouting so I can hear myself over the music. She pipes up 'why are you shouting at me? I cant hear you y'know!' and I almost fell off my stool laffin at myself, of course she had been lip reading me all night and so I didnt need to shout at all, duhhhh.  Shes coming up for my wedding and I cant wait to see her again as its been almost 6 years since we last saw one another :)

    I think you're gonna have a great time with us nutters...er....brides :)

Oooh, gonna look out for one of these Smile

Just ready your post about your parents, a friend of mine is having the same problem with her mum not wanting to go to her wedding because she isn't getting married in a church, she is getting married in 5 months time and I still don't think it's been sorted yet but time will tell, I can't honestly see her mum stay away from her youngest daughters wedding.

There is always the option of getting married abroad and then having a blessing and a family getogether when you get back, a bit more money but something to think about Smile

Hi and welcome to hitched! Big Smile

I'm not Deaf, but my cousin is profoundly Deaf and uses BSL as her first language. As such I've been signing a few years, and can now swear pretty fluently! Laugh

She came to a family wedding a few years ago, and got on fabulously. We just made sure she got a seat where she could see the registrar and lipread what was going on. We also discovered it was very useful when she was at the bar and I wasn't!

Anyway, just wanted to say welcome to Hitched, and do what makes you and your fiancee happy!

Deaf world are very small, cos  everyone know each other.. i probably know your cousin or not.. i use BSL with my friends, and some time SSE or ASL but i am useless in ASL.. lol...  most of the time i speak..

You are very  deafaware to make sure if she sit the right place, and see the lipread etc etc.. i will have to do my wedding in furture.. make sure all my deaf friends sit where they see me, and i will have to get signer person to sign them thro the church, and etc etc.. me and HB2's family are hearing.. only me and H2B deaf.. we are Speaking oral, we do sometime sign in bed, or noisin area or privates.. pretty cool that my parent wont even know what we talking about! Laugh

Whatever you and your h2b decide it shouldn't matter what others think, say, do or don't do, as long as it's what you want and are happy.

My friend is just going ahead with getting married over here in a hotel, hopefully her mum will come round to the idea closer to the time, my friend isn't going to let it spoil her day, she's not the one that will be loosing out Smile

    Hi,

I am not deaf but currently studying deaf studies at university!

I was just wondering how easy it was to plan your wedding.

I am thinking of training as a wedding planner and specialising in weddings for deaf/hard of hearing people in the future.

I was just wondering your opinions on whether you think many people would be interested in this, within the deaf comunity?

    thanks

This is a very old thread, but Elizabeth is still about and got married a few weeks ago.

I'm sure if she sees this then she'd be very happy to help out.

I was at her wedding and she had an interpreter signing at the church and during the speeches.

If she's about I'm sure she'll answer any questions you have :)

  • Re: Xx Deaf Brides xX

Hi Cat, I'm profoundly deaf and currently planning my wedding for August next year. I'd be happy to help if you want to send me a PM?
