  • Paypal dispute

I bought some GHD's through a website, they turned out to be fake. So I opened a dispute, they have said as soon as they get them back they will refund me the money I paid. I have got them weighed and it will cost me £17 to send them back, I am not happy to pay this. I have asked for this to be refunded and they keep ignoring me. I'm not sure where I stand on that though, do they have to refund me that too? Can I escalate it to a claim?

  • Re: Paypal dispute

£17 really? I sold some GHD's via the bay of e and sent them guaranteed delivery for £8 so £17 seems an awful lot. How much did they charge you delivery to send them to you?

I'd have thought you'd be able to claim that postage back though, are you speaking direct to the seller?

  • REPaypal dispute

I would escalate the claim as the item you bought was not as described.  They have to reply to paypals emails.

They were sent from China, so that's why postage is high. I am speaking directly to the seller. They're not ignoring my emails, just the part about postage. Today the email said 'one we have recieved goods back we will refund you £xx' and I had previously said I will not be sending them back until they can confirm they will cover postage. I've only got until the 2nd Feb until the dispute is closed so I will escalate it if I dont get any further. Thanks both.

how much did you pay for the item?

  • Re: REPaypal dispute

    £63 Nick.

unfortunately, the way paypal works, will mean you have to send the items back at your own cost before you get a refund - and will need to prove they have been returned or the seller can just say lost in post and you have no comeback

  • RERe: REPaypal dispute

meant to say - you need to prove they have arrived at te seller - so need to be sent trackable which is very costly abroad

  • Re: RERe: REPaypal dispute

I don't mind paying for postage to send them, but I would want that refunded too. £17 is including a signature required upon delivery.

  • Re: RERe: REPaypal dispute

I say don't send them - just keep asking for a full refund. I had an item, also from China, that wasn't as described at all. I offered to send it back at cost to the seller and they ignored me several times, so I escalated the Paypal claim saying that I wanted my money back, and unless the seller contacted me, I wasn't returning the item. I got my full refund within hours and never did return the item.

That's good to know GWTY, thanks. I'll give it a week then escalate I think.

Unfortunately, as someone else said, your seller is not obliged to refund the cost of return postage although any decent seller would.

If you take the item to your local  Trading Standards Office, they will give you written confirmation that the item is indeed fake and you can then give this to Paypal. You will not be obliged to return the item and you will then be given your refund. Be aware that Trading Standards will keep the item.
