Weaning - Share your must-haves and do-without's please!

I can't beleive my LO is growing up so fast and although I hope to hold out until he's closer to 6 months before weaning, I really want to start getting a few bits in over the next month or so to help spread the cost, as it will coincide with Christmas when he turns 6ms!

I've read up a little and realise that we can make do with a saucepan and so on already in the house, but please could you share with me any must-have equipment (or those you found a waste of money!) you found helpful when weaning your LO's...

    ThanksTIA

I forgot to add...  are those 'baby' sized blender/steamer/puree machines really worth having (e.g. Beaba BabyCook)?  I see them everywhere and my OH thinks they're a gimmick, but what does he know!ConfusedLaugh

    A blender

Ice cube trays and freezer bags

A steamer if you prefer to cook veggies this way in order to retain goodness.

Sharp knives to cope with all the veggies you'll be chopping (I hate chopping butternit squash and swede!)

Scales (if you're going to be using recipes)

    Weaning spoons and bowls

    Highchair

    Bibs

    Containers to freeze food/meals in

    Patience

WMMS - a lot of patience does go a long way!

I didn't have a massive blender - just a handheld and it was fine. x

Must haves: bibs, weaning spoons, wipe-clean surfaces!, little pots and bowls, AK ice cube trays if you have the patience to get the food out of the trays...

Can do without: recipe book (internet works fine), baby rice, large blender (just mash it with a potato masher or use a stick blender)

I have one of those hand-held Braun blenders (the kind you can whizz up soup with)...would that be fine for pureeing veggies into baby food?  Sorry for the dumb question!Embarrassed

Yes, that'll do fine. In fact, I bought one but hardly used it. Generally I ended up just mashing stuff up with a fork.

It's not a dumb question, it's all very confusing and the more you read the more confusing it gets!!
