honestly we didnt get j that much for his first birthday. we knew he would get lots of toys from our family and friends. we opened a bank account for him and put money in every year for him. we did get a couple of educational toys for him to 'open' as well.

I can't even think what else he got. One if the things from ikea that has the wire and beads that you push around. Oh a big activity cube he loves with a xylophone on one side etc

We got J a first walker thing as he wasn't walking and loved the one at Tumble Tots, a tractor that had animals in it, a car and trampoline for the garden.

I feel like Jack is spoilt- he has a big bead thing (only because i got it in a charity shop for about £4)

I don't think we were really thinking of getting him anything apart from finally sorting his child fund out and putting money in that but friends are asking what we want and if we have anymore clothes Jack's cupboard (and our loft) may burst!

Jack's had a walker since about 7 months (pushy mother wanting him to walk)

I like the idea of a tractor- he loves the giant JCB at costco (can't get him off it when he gets there) and my dad was going on about one of these that i used to have

I think i'd be on a trampoline more than him! (ex international trampoliner and coach)

We got my daughter a tricycle for her first birthday. Not that her legs were anywhere near long enough to reach the ground Laugh

Happyland stuff is good and will have a long play 'life'. My daughter was given a few push along/pull along toys which are good.

With anything that makes noises check where the on off switch is. My daughter was given a Vtech telephone which was lovely except the on-off button was one of the main buttons on the top and she just kept hitting it with the receiver - I was soon fed up of it going 'hallo bye bye hallo bye bye' all the time Laugh

yesd and that the batteries are removable! i've learnt that from GP- for some reason all of my toys have no batteries in!

J had the discovery tree and loved it.  Its still in our attic actually but goodness know where the balls for it are.

My 2's favourite toy has been the cheapest of the cheap ride-on toy, about £12 from argos/mothercare. We also have a gorgeous wooden trike, and a bigger ride-on for outside, but the little cheap one is by far the favourite. It's much lighter and more manageable for a one year old.

An Aquadraw was also a big hit

We got him a wardrobe, poor boy!  But he did get other bits from family too... could you ask for ELC vouchers maybe and put them together to get him a good garden toy or something?

My two loved some very cheap plastic racings cars from Asda, the tunnel from Ikea, a Leap Frog alphabet train ride-on, lightweight footballs, 'thats not my' books, any books with noise buttons/things to touch.

THeir birthday was in feb so we also asked for things they could use later in teh year - aquadraw and megablocks and a rocking dinosaur - all of which are a little bit old for them now but im sure they'll be into them before next Christmas.
