  • Finger food and sizing of lumps

So we are giving C much more finger food these days as he far prefers to feed himself. I wouldn't say we were exclusively going down the BLW avenue but fairly close to it. I am a bit confused about the sizing of things to give him...I'm not up to that chapter in the book yet!! The HV said today that we could give him fishfingers.....so is that with or without the breadcrumbs?? And the whole finger or break it in half? She also suggested cheese...so does she mean cheese fingers, or cubes?? I have no idea?!!! Fish is ok as it just flakes but what about meat? Again cubes or fingers???

Sorry for the probably "no brainer" questions....but I can't see me finishing the book any time soon!!

The whole fishfinger rather than cutting it up.  You want to effectively give them a handle to hold and still be able to eat.  Does that make sense ?

Zoe always had breadcrumbs on her fishfingers.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

For finger foods, the BLW book advises the length and width of two fingers - this means the food is big enough to hold with little hands but small enough to fit in the mouth.

For fish fingers and other breaded stuff, I took off the breadcrumbs as they can tend to be quite salty.

I really, really would finish reading the book before you start BLW to be honest.  It doesn't sound like you are a 100% about it so I think I'd make sure I had all the facts and information first.

Finger foods should be the width of two fingers and the length of one finger.
