Not evryone will be able to attend for one reason or another, it doesn't mean they are selfish, or don't care about the person who invited them.

I agree with you here ebony_rose - I think it can be easy to lose sight of this with all the time and effort that goes into planning weddings, but sometimes people will have very genuine reasons why they can't make it (even if they may sometimes sound odd to others).

I can understand people being upset if they are given what sounds like dodgy excuses (rather than an honest reason), but then I think again that's just human nature -  I'm sure in a lot of cases people feel that by making the excuse they are hurting people's feelings less than by saying that they just don't want to attend.

erm there wont be any, as all my friends and family will be there because they love us

So if somebody falls ill and can't attend, they mustn't love you? Tongue Tied

We have only sent save the dates so far so have not had anyone say they cant make it but we fully expect MrMinis dad to not come as MrMinis mum will be there.

    Grow up please.

Ditto! We have only just started to send STDs to those abroad to give them plenty of time!

My mum and dad have been divorced since I was 10 and Mum said she won't come if he does and I don't blame her as he has a way of being rude and creating a scene with sarccy comments and will wind her up and as civilised as she is, she'll lose it! But problem solved as he won't even be invited after what he said (see my post here on a previous page!).

  • Re: The worst excuse for not coming to your wedding....?

we had a few 'sorry i couldnt make it, im ill,' and those ones were the suspious ones who RSVPed at last minute because I chased them up. clearly having no intention of coming as no card appeared in the post (which you would have assumed they would have bought if they were going to come)

but worst was a very close friend, who didnt respond to invite at all, and didnt bother to show up either and heard nothing from her - that hurt a lot.

on a positive - we also had one amazing guest who was other side of country the day before for her grandmas funeral and traveled for over 6 hours just to come to evening reception! just shows who your true friends are

What a lovely friend you have, such loyalty!  I like hearing the nice stories of how much of an effort people actually made.

the being ill part of it wasnt the point of the thread- the thread is about strange excuses/ lies about not coming to your wedding. guniune (sp!) reason such as illness is different.

the point of the thread was about excuses which clearly are not true- and as i said i know all my friends and family will come because they love me and wouldnt 1. lie to me, 2. want to miss our big day

getting married on the 23rd July 2011 Near Chester/North Wales. To the best man ever!

actually i think the worst excuse is no excuse at all....

    Totally agree!

That said, we did have a couple who called 2 weeks before the day - having accepted about 6 mths before - to say that the wife had booked a 'surprise holiday' to France and our wedding was slap bang in the middle of it.   The husband found out he was going on holiday a week in advance and then had to call us to say they couldnt come. All smelt a bit fishy really.... Hmm

A friend of mine said to me that He would be there front and centre I got married in London or scotland or anywhere in the world. He said he would be happy to help and support us in any way. That meant the world to me. I dont see that friend often but I know I can count on him. I think friends like that and Charlied friend above are wonderful poeple. Sometimes its just the charachter of these poeple to be there for there friends when they are needed...Like I would be for any of my friends. An its a great to have that around at a stressfull time. Cause as much as it is lovely getting married it is also very stressfull lol
