  • Sorry for just popping up - Anyone with a LO who makes themselves sick? also lack of sleep

Forgive me for just popping up (many of you won't even 'know' me from years gone by) but I was wondering if anyone here has a toddler who makes themselves sick?

Ethan had reflux as a baby and we are very use to the sickness (was on Enfamil AR milk etc) but he is 2 next week and we are still getting up 7-8 times a night with him, sometimes more - he wakes at least once every hour or so all through the night.  We have to go to him because we can't do CC or anything like it because as soon as he cries he is sick everywhere.

The last time I saw the GP he told me just to leave him (in his own sick) and wanted me to take sleeping tablets so I didn't hear him! I've been a MINOS for 2 years now (infact more than that because I had MS all the way through my pregnancy with thelittle monkey and would be sick from 1am till about 5am every day).

I have no experience of this, but blimey it sounds tough Hug

What a stupidly unhelpful Dr, doesn't he know you can choke on sick?!

My friends little boy had a sick problem a while ago, nowhere near as severe but it turned out to be talcum powder getting on his chest - as soon as she stopped putting it on him he wasn't sick again. I know this won't be the case for you LO as it's happening too often, but I thought that was interesting!

Oh goodness, that does sound awful for you and your poor LO. Hug

No experience of this, but is there another more sympathetic (and better!) GP you could ask to see?  Really hope things improve, you can't go on with this lack of sleep.

No advice I'm afraid, but what a thing for the GP say!!

Can you see a different one, or your HV if they're any good?

I hope it gets better for you, sounds like you could really do with a break Hug

Thanks everyone, I spoke to the HV about 9/10 months ago - in the end I ended up giving them ideas they could share with other parents, as i'd tried everything they could suggest.

I have spoken to the likes of Andrea Grace and Milipond about the sleep issue but both admitted I have done most things they would recommend (except one thing - the dummy) but i'm not quite ready for that to go yet (this is because it has been a god send since Ethans grommets came out 9 weeks after he had them put in at the beginning of 2010)

    No experience, I'm afraid.

One thing that we try and do if G has been sick in the day is to have several muslins/ towels on top of her sheet so that if she wakes in the night and has been sick, we just pull that layer off and don't need to change her bottom sheet. I realise that he may be too sick to do that and it doesn't help if their clothes are covered, etc. If it works, it does reduce the amount of time you are awake for at least - probably not much help though!

    Hug it sounds tough

I remember you too. Is it worth changing GP / seeing someone different at the practice? They might be able to help - maybe even refer to a paed to just check there's nothing going on with the reflux side of things still? (disclaimer: I am in no way a medic! Just a thought.)

  • Re: Sorry for just popping up - Anyone with a LO who makes themselves sick? also lack of sleep

    Hi sherry, I remember you.

I'm a bit confused.  Are you saying he is sick when he cries and it's not deliberate or that he really is making himself sick like for attention?

  • Re: Sorry for just popping up - Anyone with a LO who makes themselves sick? also lack of sleep

Has he been checked for plyoric stenosis?  I'm not medical but it was something suggested when Izzy was little and was frequently sick.
