  • OT - Norfolk people (or anyone that knows Great Yarmouth)

My H is from GY, and is desperate to take me and O there as I've never been (in truth, he just wants to relive his yoof by going on the snail ride ROTFL).

Where would be good (preferably cheap/free!)places to go for days out with a 9/10 month old? And places to stay? It'd only be a few days/nights we'd be going for, and it doesn't have to be anything fancy - looking more for areas to look at really.

All suggestions good and bad welcome!

    TIA Thanks

We're going Mon-Fri next week and staying in MIL / SIL caravan.  I've changed over some Tesco vouchers for one or two days but but can't remember where for!  There's a sealife centre there and I'm sure you could google for a 2 for 1 voucher or maybe use Tesco vouchers for that too.

We pretty much go every year with H's family and we used to stay in Hemsby.  I'm terrible with names of places and where to go etc as I never have to think of these things, we just go where H's family go, they always arrange good stuff to do

Neither of these Are free but when we went to Yarmouth last Easter (whilst pregnant with Louie) we went go karting by the seafront & banger racing on the main road into the seafront. We stayed at park resorts which was crapper than a crap thing so avoid there x

    Excellent guys, thankyou.

And dumbo/jugs (whoever you are!Laugh), you are wonderful.Kiss

Eek Snail Ride! Waaaah! My grandparents live up the road from GY and many of my childhood summers were spent on the snail ride! We tried to take A on it last year but she was too scared ROTFL

No idea about where to stay, as we always stayed with GPs, but would also suggest the Broads as somewhere to head to. It's so pretty and you could hire a boat for a few hours pretty easily. Roy's of Wroxham always a must too ROTFL (I think Roy is some sort of Mafia Don as he owns everything in Wroxham)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane

I think Steve enjoyed himself ROTFL

Oh just thought of something else you might like, Family Fun Night at Caesars Bar on Gt Yarmouth seafront. Its every wednesday throughout the summer, 7-late with great views from the balcony of the beach firework display, BBQ (cheap prices), fun and games, fab DJ!!!! Free entry. If you try and watch the firewaorks from the beach/prom then its so crowded

ROTFL My H has just been squealing for joy at the snail ride video.Weep
    Thanks clarrie!

dumbo - that sounds good actually. BBQ, fireworks and a good DJ you say?Wink

Hmmm....looking at it, as we're not fussed about where exactly we would stay (only really need it for a bed/dumping ground), we might Travelodge it at £19 a night as we'll have the car anyway.
A combo of Tesco vouchers and other vouchers, and I'm hoping the whole thing can come to around £100. Probably TOTALLY unrealistic, but a girl can dream!

    Yep EXCELLENT DJ!

Oh oh oh and Gt Yarmouth Market chips Stick out tongue (ask your hubby!)

When did your husband live here then?

  • Re: OT - Norfolk people (or anyone that knows Great Yarmouth)

Market chips? Are they like chip shop chips? Drowning is salt and vinegar? <drool>

H lived there when he was little. Moved away when his parents split, so maybe 4/5. A good 20 odd years ago anyway. His mum used to take him and his bro there on holidays as kids too. He's forever banging on about the ruddy snail ride and how he is 'called by the salty sea air'.ROTFL

Better than chippy chips, we have toons of little market stalls that sell chips, as much salt and vinegar as you want to drown them in too!

Laugh by the salty sea air! How long since he came back here? I hope he's not too disappointed lol

  • Re: OT - Norfolk people (or anyone that knows Great Yarmouth)

Gosh, almost 20 years I'd guess!  He's happy as long as the snail ride is there though!Laugh

    I'm seriously craving chips now!!!
