I think other hitchers have proved that buying the cheap china dresses isn't always a good idea, and I don't for one minute think every china dress is wonderful and on par with the designer dresses.

I have never said that you or anyone else cannot express your opinion. I think we all come on hitched because it is not all fluff, and people give honest opinions and I would never suggest that you or anyone else should not be entitled to do so. The only point of yours that I disagreed with was with comparing the dresses to the designers pictures, purely because they are professional pictures and in my experience the dresses have never been as good as they looked in the pictures.

Yes they will copy.  My friend referred me to them today she used them herself a couple years ago.  My Bridesmaid and flower girl dressers were not on the website so I emailed them the pics and they said no problem!!!  I will definately be ordering from them...  They charged me 2 thirds less they charge here (of which will go on the booze fund LOL!!!)

It really does depend on the person. I personally love fabrics etc and studied textiles at college. I am picky generally about fabrics and therefore chosen a real silk dress which does come with a price. I personally would prefer to have the real thing for many different reasons. I also feel as though i will only marry once and it is the only time i will splash out on such an item!

However, some people just cannot afford the price tag and i can totally understand why people opt for china dresses. I would say do as much research as you possibly can if your going down that route!

I notice no one has mentioned Light In The Box - is this because it is not well know or not very good?

  • Re: Landy / China Wedding Dresses - Help and reviews please??!!!

I was in 2 minds about ordering one from a china online shop.

Originally I thought I would order one from China as to me it seemed crazy to spend so much money on a dress that would only be worn for 1 day. When I went to try dresses on, the really important thing that stood out to me on the day was the corsets and boning in the dresses. I tried on a dress that was considerably cheaper than the dress that I finally chose (this particular designer has all of her dresses made in china). Each dress I tried on, I insisted on sitting down in as I was concerned the dress would lose its shape and the bones become bent. In this cheaper dress, the bones bent when I sat down and the dress didnt look right when I stood up. In a lot of the more expensive dresses I tried on, the bones were not budging for anyone!

My dress that I finally chose is made of dutchess silk. I know that if I order from china then the dress may look the same but I am obviously not going to get silk for a fraction of the price!

I think it all comes down to personal opinion. I personally wanted a dress that I would feel fab in all day and that I would not be worrying about when I order it. I also wanted the exact one that I saw in the shop. Had I not had the budget to buy one from a shop then I would not want to miss out on a traditional gown and would most def buy from a china supplier to ensure I had a beautiful dress but within my budget.

My particular dress is handmade in the UK. I am unfortunatly paying the price for that. A lot of the other dresses are made in china where the labour etc is cheaper and they do work out to cost a lot less so I guess if you are ordering a dress from a shop that you know is made in china, then why not order it online for a fraction of the cost.

    Sorry... such a babbling post!

    Hi Lauren700,

Have you got pics of your dress??

I've tried on (& fell in love with!) Mark Lesley 'Eve' today Smile....i think i've finally found 'the one'!!

Can you tell the difference between the quality of the Landy dress and the original?

And are the diamante buttons down the back as good too?

They still haven't got this one on their website so i assume i could do the same as you and email them pics............

    Many thanks x

OMG just founf my dream dress that I cant afford on yourbridalwear, sooo tempted to order, as not getting wed for 1 years so if its a mistake i could always resell!!!

  • Re: Landy / China Wedding Dresses - Help and reviews please??!!!

I seriously considered buying my dress direct from china, and did loads of research on different companies.  The one i was going to go with was Milly Bridal, which hasn't been mentioned on here yet.  In the end, I chanced accross the same dress going second hand on ebay.  Given a choice, I would rather by a genuine dress second hand, but I can see why this would not appeal to some people.

Its clear that sometimes buying direct from china pays off, but you have to accept it is a risk.  You might get a bargin, you might end up wasting £170 on a dress which is unwearable.

  • Re: Landy / China Wedding Dresses - Help and reviews please??!!!

I have looked into this but unfortuantely I can't find anything similar to my dress; it's a Victoria Jane by Ronald Joyce dress.

I will however, having read the reviews and thought long and hard about it, that I will get my BM dresses from Landy Bridal as I have seen a great copy of a Dessy dress which all of my BM's love. It comes in at roughly £80 per dress. I have told the lady at my wedding shop that I am thinking of doing thsi and they have said they don't mind making alterations as necessary.

Ithink it's down to personal preference. TBH on your wedding day who is going to come upto you and say 'oh my god your dress is a copy'. I don't personally think there is any difference.

All you 'china dress' girlies look stunning x

    Hi Gemm

  • Re: Landy / China Wedding Dresses - Help and reviews please??!!!

    Fascinating post.

I'm more inclined to agree with tahdah and PG. Many of the China dresses I've seen flashed have looked like a much cheaper equivalent, presumably because of the material used, to the 'real' dresses. This has nothing to do with the model in the pictures, just the quality of the gown itself. I'm also keen to support our own economy first and foremost, and my dress is being made for me in this country.

I realise that people have very different budgets and requirements from their dresses and so buying from China suits some.

    Hi Gemm

    ???

Well as many of yo know i did get a dress from one of these sites and was dissapointed.  It was different from the picture, needed alterations to amend this.  The material was not very nice on the one i orderd tbh...  It was nice and weighty but felt rough to the touch, it had a chiffon layer.  It had a poor finish and somehow they managed to catch a lot of red ( i assume tacking thread) under the chiffon layer.  The quality just wasnt there.  My MIL2B is a seemstress and she was not impressed with the finished product at all.

As i hadnt been dress shopping before hand i had no idea how much the quality would differ.  The dress i have chosen looks amazing imo, feels wonderful and soft to the touch.  Material is so much better.  My new dress also has a chiffon/voil type layer on.

The dress i have now is out of season and was on sale for £400, so not that much more than a China Dress.

But many other brides have been very happy with their purchases.  So maybe i was just unlucky.

Does anyone know when wedding dresses tend to go into the sale? I've seen a few designs that I love this season, and baring in mind how much time I have, I may be able to get one of them in the sale.

I've seen quite a few summer dresses on sale now, must be because people have already bought for their weddings this summer?

I was considering going down the China route but after seeing my friend's dress I just dont think so. It was so badly fitted and didnt look nice at all (eep feel awful writing that). I'll be hitting the sales - here in West Yorks there is a shop in Wakefield doing all sale dresses for under £500 woop!

Another thing about getting a dress from China is you dont get to go shopping and trying loads on. Which is going to be my favourite thing!

    Hi Lauren,

I love the Mark Lesley Eve dress and think I am going to order it but the idea of ordering it from Landy sounds great.  Could you please send me some photos?

    Thanks
