  • Where to have a wedding reception on a small budget?

Total budget is £3k (less if possible). However I dont know where to have the reception. We will have approx 40 (maybe more/less) guests. Thanks!

Was going to suggest a hall but will be too big for 40 guests I would have thought, perhaps a restaurant for exclusive hire or a hotel with a small function room?

We are holding our wedding reception in a country pub with a three course meal and a disco afterwards.  The pub isn't charging us to hire the place because we are eating there and also will be buying our drinks from the bar.  I don't know if that is an option for you but it works for our small budget.

Oh yes never considered that! Will look at a few pubs. Thanks Nolan - think a hall would be too big

    Hi,

You may want to look at some of the £999 packages that Old English Inns are offering; I think the Holiday Inn are also doing them (well they were about 2 months ago).  They generally include a 3 course meal, hire of ceremony room, breakfast room and evening area as well as a disco and a glass of wine with the meal.  We wanted to go with them because our budget is quite small too; however, the ones near us are a bit run down and so not that good - however, I've seen some in different areas that look gorgeous Big Smile

Also; not wanting to direct you away from this forum because it's my favourite wedding forumWink; but the moneysavingexpert.com forum is really good for money saving tips ifyou're planning a wedding on a tight budget.

    Good luck! Smile

We are having a private restaurant type place. we are having ceremony and reception there for 150 ppl and only costing £1300 for the lot inc catering so it is possible!

Again, pubs and social clubs would be a good place to look. Good luck!!!

  • Re: Where to have a wedding reception on a small budget?

Aw sorry hun; I thought Holiday Inn would still be doing them Confused

I just checked the Old English Inns website and they still seem to be offering the £999 deal though

    HI,

We've got a package with our venue for 50 day guests and 150 evening guests. we get the ceremony room, 3 course meal with wines, dj, buffet and our room for the night. we're only paying £1500!

if you dont mind doing some of the stuff yourself your budget is definately do-able.

Thanks Cosmo is that a chain or a local hotel? Sounds like a bargain! Most hotels round here want at least £40pp for sit down meal

Which area are you in??? It may help us come up with some suggestions. Are you also willing to get married away from the weekend? Mon-Fri weddings often attract decent discounts.

we're getting married in november (off season) and on a friday, so that had a helping hand in the cost.

We found a little golf club round the corner from our church - they let you hire the golf club (but remove everything golfy from the club beforehand, even the pool table) for £100 and they were happy for us to use our own caterers for both the daytime and the evening food. It's also nice for pictures as well. You could also try local football and rigby clubs as they often have space for their awards events, and again they can be nice for photos due to the outside space.

Other than that, you could look at a midweek wedding and for late availability as a lot of places will offer you a good deal for a late booking - generally within 6 months.

We did look at the Old English inns deal, we just couldnt find one close enough to the church that we wanted to get married in, but the food sounded lovely. How about a village hall - some of them are often on the smaller side in smaller villages and again can be really pretty if you dress the room up.

Where abouts are you in the country?

If you are in the Hertfordshire area I've just seen 2 venues which do good budget options, 3 Lakes in Ware, and Mill Green Golf Club in WGC were very reasonable x
