  • Expressed Breastmilk from freezer, should I use?

Last night I took out some breast milk from the freezer which I expressed a couple weeks back but I noticed the lid had slightly lifted. I have the Tommee Tippee collection pots for the milk which can go in the freezer, when I put it in the freezer I made sure that the lid was on securly but for some reason it wasnt on tightly when I got it out.

Obviously the TT pots are no good so what do you normally use to freeze breast milk?

Would you still use it or discard it?

    TIA

I would probably use it but not sureif that is right.  I use the boots storage bags to store expressed milk in.

I wouldn't use it, but then I'm a bit terrified about food poisoning so wouldn't risk it (it's my own issue though having been ill for 12 months following an E.coli infection)

I always use the freezer bags, that way you can mark on them how much is in there and when you expressed it (makes it easier to know when the stuff is about to expire).

I would use it I think.

I use the Lansinoh freezer bags to store milk and find them pretty good.

I'd probably have used it too.

Another one here who used (a variety of) freezer bags to store breast milk.

I'd have used it too. I use these to freeze the milk in then transfer to freezer bags - http://www.totscorner.co.uk/milk-trays-p-333.html

I'd probably not use it but i'm a freak when it comes to food dates etc. I use breast milk bags from tesco for milk, they're great.

Thanks everyone, I did give Imogen the breast milk, It didnt have freezer burn on so thought it was safe. She had it about 3 hours ago, is fast asleep fat and full.

It'll be fine. Having the lid on makes absolutely no difference to how well it's preserved. There's zero chance that anything will have grown in it, the only problem with breastmilk is that enzymes can still work and that can make it smell rancid (but it will be fine in terms of safety). Hwoever, a lid makes no difference to that.
