    But I've been invited to her party and can hardly go with nothing.

    Ah! New information! In that case, and on the basis you're not 'friends',  I'd spend about £20-30.

    Blimey £30 on someone you hardly know..you're generous!!

    really? If i'm going to their party and accepting their hospitality, then I would want to buy them something nice. I hate 'nice' but I'm struggling with words today. Laugh

    argh, hitched is doing that double posting thing again. Sorry people, i know how annoying it is to have to read everything twice (or some might argue it's bad enought to read once).

    The party is in a hall.

    Nick, I know that one person's £30 is anothers £2.50, I wanted to know what other people would buy/spend if they were invited to their neighbour's party.

    Actually, the question CAN be answered. It says what would you spend, not what should I spend.

    Don't be a smartarse*, you know what nick means. Sure, it can be answered, but without the specific context of the hitcher's personal means it is meaningless.

    * in case this is starred out, it is "s m a r t a r s e"

    well yes, but the actual question is "what should i spend?"

    If I didn't really know them I wouldn't be going. But I'm a miserable git, not Jolly at all.

    Mrs Bonfire:

    why would you invite someone to a party that you don't really know,

     in order to get to know them better, maybe?

    Fair point, I am indeed being a smartarse. I just thought the response was a bit ott, spelling it out again at the end as if I was a 2 year old. And if it had been starred out, adding an asterisk wouldn't exactly highlight it would it.

    I shall switch off my pedantry program now!
