Those who have roller blinds in their children's bedrooms....

  • Those who have roller blinds in their children's bedrooms....

.....what do you use to secure the cord so it's not a safety hazard?  I've got a blind in my childrens' room which, at the moment, the cord just hangs.  This worries me because we live in a cottage so the windows are relatively low and easily accessible for an inquisitive toddler.

I've seen some plastic fittings on Ebay which fit on the wall and clip over the loop of the cord - does anyone have these?

I think we have what you're describing, on our ikea black out blinds - the cord runs through a plastic bit which is attached to the wall.  No problems with them whatsoever.

Sorry I can't help.  Our blind has a fixed cord so it doesn't dangle.

That sounds like them, thanks.  Will order some.

Ours have blinds that stick on the windows so no cords invovled, but we have a blackout blind in our room (H works nights sometimes, so needs it dark in the day) which has a plastic cord.  It does have a thing on it which breaks the cord if pulled too hard, but we loop it over a loopy bit at the end of the curtain pole several times so the kids can't reach it.

    That's a good idea.   Thanks

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

  • Re: Those who have roller blinds in their children's bedrooms....

Ours is just double looped over the curtain pole (it's in the window cavity and there is a curtain pole over the window with "decorative" curtains). I do wonder whether you can just snip the cord so there are just two lengths hanging down instead of one loop, though?

I wanted to go out and change the world but I couldn't find a babysitter.

I have used clothes pegs - they are used for so many things in my house!

I am about to get new blinds from Hilarys and their advert says they offer a free safety upgrade - free safety devices to keep cords out of reach - if you have any blinds from them it might be worth a call. When they come to do my quote, I'm going to see if they will sort out the blinds I had from them last year (which currently have the clothes pegs!)

Here is a very useful article I found on devices for child safety for different types of blinds http://www.i-newswire.com/blindsuk-net-the-first-uk-website/25967 . I will have my children safe blinds ordered today. Hope this helps
