  • Recovery after a c section

From the time of going into recovery to coming home and the days and weeks after?

How long before you could move, get out of bed etc.

What were things like when you got home? How long til you let the house?

    Thanks

I had my c-section at 3am, at 11am I was in the shower and up on my feet. There wasn't any pain, and i've been up and on my feet since. You do have to remember to be careful for few weeks. Hopefully you'll be like me and sail through it but I know everyone has different experiences.

I had my secion at 7.30am and up on my feet at midday, no pain, was home next morning and recovered pretty quickly, took it easy for a week or two but didn't have any discomfort.

I had my last section at lunchtime and was up about 7. Home after 2 days. I just took things slowly because last time I thought I was fine and ended up over doing things i.e. shopping trips etc.

I had my section at about 9.30am and didn't get out of bed until 6am the next morning but our hospital has a policy that you have to stay in bed for 12 hours and after the 12 hours the night shift didn't want to help so I waited until the morning when I could get up and have a shower.  Moving around wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I went home after 2 days and left the house the following day, I actually went shopping the day after that and after less than a week I was doing the dusting! (Although I wouldn't recommend it as I then spent a couple of hours back in bed moaning about the pain!)

The first time the health visitor turned up she caught me vacuuming, it was 2 weeks after!

As long as you keep taking the pain relief you're ok to potter about, but don't stop as the effect is culmulative.

I think a lot of these things depend on your hospital policy.

When I had mine, it was standard to be in bed for 24 hours with a catheter. That was taken out and the dressing over the stitches was taken off and we were then encouraged to get into the chair instead of the bed. I had a shower later that afternoon, so about 30 hours after.

I had M on a Monday at 1pm and I was discharged on the Thursday at about 3pm. Again, the hospital I was at weigh baby on day 3 to check for weight loss concerns so this is why it was the Thursday.

I think I recovered well. I went out on the Friday to my parents for dinner. I went out for a long walk a week later (and I mean LONG!) and I was driving after 3 weeks.

I had a planned section  but i was virtually the same as Rusty - had babies at 12ish, up next day about 9 for a shower and then home on Thursday after the 3 day weigh-in.   Didn't have any pain really, just uncomfortableness tyrning over in bed for the first week or so.  Didn't do much at home housework wise but more to do with not having time rather than not being able.

First time we went out was a few days after getting home and when i walked you could tell that i had been exercising but it wasn't sore, just a dull ache.

Would highly recommend a c-section as loved mine! Smile

  • Re: Recovery after a c section

i had my elective 20 days ago.  Section ended around 2.30pm, catheter out 7am next day and out of bed around 10ish i think.

I stayed 2 nights in hospital and discharged around 50 hours after section.  i was allowed a shower on the 2nd morning

I've had a lot of pain but my section lasted over 2 hours due to lots of adhesions so they said to expect more discomfort than most.  It was probably a week before i could get out of bed without groaning in pain but now 20 days later it's fine though i still have some discomfort and can't wear jeans for long as they press into my scar.

you know i loved mine too, and next time i'd do it again, i've been told i'll get the option as it was an emergency c-section (if there is a next time)

Thanks for sharing ladies. I find out monday if i get a section date and im quite anxious about what il be able to do afterwards.

  • Re: Recovery after a c section

I had an emergency c-section at 10am on the Sunday, was up out of bed around 5pm.  I never had a shower until the next morning though.

I found things like lifting my leg to put my pj bottoms on really painful.  The first couple of nights I was really sore and found it hard to get in/out of bed especially.  We got home on the Wednesday evening, this was mainly delayed due to C being on anti-biotics and being juandice though rather than my recovery.

Once home I would say I was a lot better after a week, it wasn't so bad that it stopped me from going out anywhere as long as H was with me to lift C in his car seat etc.

I think I'll be requesting an elective section if we ever have any more children, so the pain hasn't put me off anyway!

My recovery wasn't bad, but not brilliant either.  I had the section at 1pm on the Monday and the nurses removed my catheter on the Tuesday afternoon, at which point I got out of bed.  I was in quite a lot of pain after the spinal wore off, but things got much better once I started to move around.  I was in hospital for 5 days, but that's the norm here.

I found it very easy to strain myself after getting home and had trouble getting in and out of bed for the first few weeks.  Our sofa is quite deep and I found it a nightmare getting up and down, especially holding the baby as I needed at least one hand to push myself up.  Also, I found it hard to walk far - I walked 10 minutes along the road when i was 10 days post-caesar and I could hardly walk back again.  I felt like insides were pushing on my scar Ick!

On the other hand, my scar healed well, never got infected etc etc, but I found my recovery quite slow.  By my 6 weeks check, I felt pretty good, though.
