  • We saw the dermatologist this morning

We were in and out in 10 minutes. He didn't look that carefully at it but he asked what creams she'd had already, how long her face had been like it and if it was anywhere else on her body. She he looked at her bottom too. We now have a new cream for her face and something else for her bottom. And we'll go back in three months.

Sigh.....still at least we are in the system

i hope the new creams work for you.

Everything crossed that the creams help. The trouble is it takes weeks for the skin to recycle, doesn't it. I just hope she's no worse in the meantime x

Thanks girls. I am hoping it was just something he was used to seeing even though we aren't so it seemed fairly straightforward to him. The cream for her face is anti-fungal, steroid and anti-microbial(?)

Fingers crossed you see an improvement soon. Did he give you a rough idea how long it is likely to be till you do see any change?Like you said at least your in the system now so if there is no improvement you can bring the appointment forward. x

Did you get my email about the books? I sent them yesterday so should be with you early next week. x

  • Re: We saw the dermatologist this morning

Oh bless you. It's horrid when you build the appointment up thinking it'll give you the answers and they do that. I know that's what I felt like when I left the dieticians with Matilda.

I hope the creams work. Has it improved since you posted that photo last week? x

Yes I got your mail about the books! - sorry I meant to mail you back...thank you so much, I'll let you know when they arrive.

Her face had cleared up a lot since last week but tonight has flared up again. And her bottom is red raw and bleeding so whilst I know it's early days I am not feeling hopeful Sad

He gave me no indication of what it was nor how long it might take to heal, or what to expect really. All he said was that the face one might sting a bit so to try it at the edge first and if she was ok with it, to use it on her face properly

Oh no, it's really disappointing when you wait ages for something and it seems to be anti-climatic. I think that's a good point that he probably sees it all the time so in the scheme of things he thinks it's no big deal? I hope the cream starts to work.

Oh, we were told this too. They said to put the emollient cream on first then the steroid to reduce the stinging.

  • Re: We saw the dermatologist this morning

Ooh thanks Rusty. What emollient do you use? We have dermabase cream

We use Cetraben. We were using Doublebase but the eczema specialist nurse did M's allergy tests and made us stop. She says Cetraben is best for little ones IHO.

  • Re: We saw the dermatologist this morning

Hmm interesting....yes doublebase was what I meant not dermabase. Ah well I guess I shall see how we get on tomorrow. If it means anything it is Elidel Cream we've been given for her face and Trimovate for her bottom

Not heard of them but then we've only used steroids rather than everything else that is in those.

Fucibet and Elecon were pure miracle workers for M. Literally got rid of her eczema over night.

  • Re: We saw the dermatologist this morning

Having just read up on them, it would appear he thinks both areas are infected.

I don't know. I feel so awful about it all. Everytime I change her nappy and see her red raw bleeding skin on her bottom, and have to hold her hands away from scratching it...(I have eczema on my arms and I know what it feels like to need to scratch). For anyone that doesn't know what it feels like - if you have ever had a gnat bite that you've had to scratch...imagine that all over your arms, bottom, legs and that the urge to scratch doesn't lessen at all.

And then I look at her beautiful smile, and her peeling bleeding skin on her face. And every cream we've had has made her cry and made it worse or only made it temporarily better. And I remember what it was like before her face was like this...when people would tell me how beautiful she was was and what a wonderful smile she had. Now people either think she's been burned or she's got a mucky face with jam all over it.

I just want to help herSad
