Oh gillsy... :) I will use the word 'disaster' lightly.

Disaster 1; it rained and it spoiled my morning but then cleared up by the time we were heading out..

Disaster 2; I had to send my hairdresser out (I was in the salon) to get me Immodium. Tongue Tied Was in a bad way! LOLOL

Disaster 3; The bestman had the wrong outfit but the groom fixed that, that morning.

Disaster 4: the wheels on the Spitfire wouldnt disengage meaning the plane couldnt hang about too much for us...

I think thats all that went 'wrong'.

    Dinnae panic, hen!

I don't think anything could ruin our wedding to be honest apart from a serious illness or the groom not turning up. I'm pretty chilled about that kind of stuff though.

A few things didn't go to plan but it didn't spoil one second of the day (I'll list everything):

Hairdresser was a cow, did my hair wrong, did bm's hair differently, kept asking me why I wasn't nervous, asked what I'd do if the cake collapsed blah blah blah. I hate her now!

I tripped up and put my heel on top of my dress on grass making a massive mark.

My bm's hem was trashed before the ceremony cos her shoes were sparkly and burst all the stitching in the hem.

    I was late!

I got so nervous going down the aisle I didn't say thanks and bye to my dad which I'm sad about. Dad and H were just glad I hadn't collapsed...I looked that white apprently!

The registrar didn't ask people to stand for my arrival and this still bugs me to this day. The ceremony aisle music started too early and overlapped with the piper who was playing as I walked through the foyer and this was H's cue that I had arrived. I panicked when the aisle music started up and my bm just ran so I didn't get a calm moment to hug her and say 'ready?'.

We ran over time with the pics and I had spent years saying I'd never do that. Speeches were cut short due to the delay.

We forgot about sky lanterns until 11pm so some guests had left by then.

I didn't put my engagement ring back on.

So heaps of things didn't go to plan but obviously no disasters.

Gillsy I think you are going to make yourself so nervous if you think worst case senerio so count to 10 if you feel anxious and think like I did 'nothing can ruin the day'.

    xx

I'm not worried really, I was just curious how everybodies day went.  Maybe the use of the word 'disasters' was a bit strong

I'd have been surprised if nothing had gone wrong so took it all in my stride. The worst bit was the registrar and the music because I didn't get to compose myself and that didn't help the very last minute nerves.

Oh I also forgot my underwear so had to phone H who was at our house and tell him to hide in the garage so I could get into the house!

OH and I went to a wedding last yr where the cake maker brought a square cake on the day, but it should have been round and so didnt fit the cake stand.  The bride was mortified - no one else noticed!  I bet little things always happen that no one else even realises are happening!

On the other hand I also went to a wedding where a lady collapsed at the reception and was taken to hospital where she later died as she had had a heart attack.  That was a bit rough on the bride and groom... :-(

    Panic thee not!

I do hundreds of weddings and to be quite honest, there are little blips....but I've never seen a wedding ruined as a result. Nine times out of ten the tog, venue staff and myself rally round behind the scenes and most things go un-noticed by the guests.

One 'blip' that might be worth being aware of is when the M of the B booked the rooms for the family to stay at the hotel, and unbeknown to her so had the best man. Just before the first dance the bride was told she would have to pay for the unused rooms (ie 10 rooms booked instead of 5). While the B + G were sorting it out, I did some kids entertainment, and the tog hung on for another hour without a grumble or charge. A couple of other guests took a room each and the venue agreed to let them off the rest. An hour later first dance happened and it was a great night.

    1) Went to have hair and make up done, I left the BM's there while I went home to change - the car they were in broke down - luckily my Dad rescued them !

    2) Best Man turned up with brown shoes, he'd left his black ones in London - OH had to take him shopping to buy new ones

    3) OH's sister who was a bridesmaid hadn't tried her dress on (despite us asking time and time again) and it didn't fit !!! She had to hold her wrap at at exact angle so that you couldn't see her dress wasn't done up

    4) OH's father only bought a blue shirt to go with the suit we had hired for him - he had to swap with his friend who was wearing a white shirt

    5) MIL forgot her outfit and had an hour when they arrived to buy something else !

None of it mattered though, I wouldn't have changed the day for anything

this is why all my guests will be booking their own rooms :-) !!!!!!!

oddly enough I find this thread quite calming - it's like, yeah, something will happen but it will get sorted out.

On my sister's wedding day the beautician called on the day to say she was sick! My sis very calmly got out the yellow pages and just started calling until she found one free. She looked absolutely beautiful, but I am still amazed that a month past her 18th bday she stayed so controlled!

  • Re: Survey for OM's - Disasters on the Day

We had quite a few 'events' on our wedding day.

    1) Hairdresser that we had booked for mil didn't open as it was a Thursday immediately after xmas and they didn't bother getting in touch to let me know. (My hairdresser fitted her in tho)

    2) Bridesmaid bouquet was made as a button hole. Apparently when the florist wrote down the order her 1 B/M looked like 1 B/H (They managed to make another within 2 hours)

    3) Probably the worst - shortly after I set off up the aisle a drunken welshman came in the church and followed me up the aisle wearing full combat gear and hobnail boots.  He knelt down behind us at the altar and then took a seat on my side.  For a little while he was shouting out things like Oggy Oggy Oggy - up the Welsh and Land of my Father I shall not want.  Then my brother and the BM went to sit next to him in a threatening manner and eventually he left.

That's it, everything else went smoothly.

I think if it had been our first marriage I would have been devastated but we can see the funny side of things now and it certainly gave all the guests something to talk about!

I really don't think anyone would believe it but we have got it on dvd to prove it.  I've often thought of sending it in to you've been framed!
