    Good q allymc!

I remember when my parents switched us over much later.. and i hated it - semi seemed horrible and my dad would try to convince me it was the same milk!!

We switched Abigail at about 18m cos I was fed up buying two lots of milk (she doesn;t drink it either so only has in on cereal) and throwing half of hers away all the time.  We did switch her back when Lily started weaning though.  So, at the moment they both have full fat milk, Abigail is 3yr 4m and Lily almost 18m, we'll probably continue buying it for a while long, I don't see us switching when she turns 2 as she likes it so much and I'm quite enjoying having a child who likes milk so don't want to jinx it if we switch!

Yes, we did too. Just after she was two I think. She didn't notice any difference!

Many thanks for all the replies, food for thought!

Michy-lou, this is from the 'eat well' website:

From two years old, you can start giving your toddler semi-skimmed milk, provided they're eating a varied and balanced diet and are growing well. Fully skimmed milk and 1% fat milk aren't suitable as main drinks until they're five years old, because they don't contain enough vitmain A and skimmed milk doesn't contain enough calories for a growing child.

Hannah is 26 months and we've kept her on full fat for now mainly because she only has a bit in her cereal and isn't doing great with eating at the moment

  • Re: Did you switch to semi-skimmed at 2 years?

As the NHS advice is you can switch, not that you should, we are going to keep owen on full fat for as long as he is skinny. We will need to buy it for A in a few months anyway.

I switched Flynn's milk at 2 but Tate is so little that I'm keeping him on full fat.  Flynn's been back on full fat since about 3.5 too as I'm not buying 3 sorts of milk! (we have skimmed)

    Tate - March 2008 @ 37+2

Yes we did, but then mine are both chunky monkeys and really good eaters. Neither of them noticed the difference.

  • Re: Did you switch to semi-skimmed at 2 years?

A is 18 months but we have partially switched her as she's a bit fat and still has 16 oz of milk a day. She has semi skimmed in the day but full fat at night. She doesn't seem to have noticed.
