Thanks BG, that makes sense. I'll stick with my 10 packs on the list then and send H out if I need more.

I knwo I'll be constantly wanting to change it if I'm bleeding so better to have too many than too few.

ETA, thanks all Smile I can always get more if I am running low as you say so no fear about running out. Just want to make sure I have enough for the stay in hospital!

<stupid q> Do you bleed as much / at all if you have a c section?

You could stock up.... or you could do what I did and buy 20 then realise you would need many more than that and send your poor H out to get some - poor soul. He even phoned me to check he was buying the right thing Laugh

I can't remember how many I had but I know normal ST's aren't recommended because they are too drying if you have stitches.

I'd have visions of H bringing a massive selection of 'options' home just in case!

I think my mum picked up some for me, and H and I went to tesco in the first week and I got more there. I also bought boots maternity mats, which I used post birth to sleep on in case of leaks as I love my JLew sheets! these are also for sleeping on in case your waters break, but I just bought a cheap double rubber backed sheet which I kept on until my lochia ended too. Be warned if you get one of these though, they make your bed really hot in the summer!

I asked this at my NCT class - not a stupid questions

Yes, you do bleed if you have a c-section - the bleeding is your uterus contracting, like a big period, so you get the lochia regardless of how you deliver your baby

Thanks Spamboule, glad it wasn't a dunce question!

Thanks BG - I have Boots maternity mats on the list too! Might look at the waterproof sheet for the bed as well, but fear I'd get too sticky in summer! May lie a towel or two under the sheets or underneath me and use the Maternity mats instead!

I got some from Tesco, IIRC. But I only wore them for a couple of days as I hardly bled at all and just used panty liners for a few weeks after that. Keep receipt, I am  sure you could return unopened packets.

  • Re: Maternity Pads

I *think* maternity pads are cheaper too as they don't have VAT charged on them whereas ST's do.

  • Re: Maternity Pads

I really recommend the Mothercare ones with wings.  They do two types, a thick one and a slimmer one.  Thick to start with - and if you give birth vaginally then the extra padding is much more comfortable - and then switch to the thinner ones.

You don't want to use Always because they are drying, especially if you have stitches.

I got a couple of packs and then just bought more as I needed them.  As my mum kept saying to me when I was worrying about things I felt I had to have before Z was born "the shops don't vanish when you have a baby".

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

  • Re: Maternity Pads

I used the Mothercare ones, my mum went and got them for me as I used mine as my waters were leaking out, nice! The mothercare ones were really soft though. I also bought a cheap plastic cup to keep in the bathroom to douche when I went for a wee, less painful. Oh and some Tea Tree oil, I put one drop in the cup of water and that really helped.

    Gem x
