We need to have a loft conversion done to fit in more children's bedrooms, but prior to this we want to change around some bits in the existing house which will mean knocking rooms through etc. This should make our bedroom much larger.

We had E in with us until 13 weeks before moving him into his cot, which can't fit in our current bedroom.

We want another baby soonish, but don't have the money to do the loft conversation as well as the other changes. As our room will be much larger we could fit the hammock and then a cot (if necessary) in it.

Is it possible to keep them in your room for over a year like this?

Sorry this is a bit long winded!

    Hi,

We had Estelle and Fergus in with us until they were about 8 months and Gabriella until she was a little over a year.

Was okay, but moved them to their own rooms as we felt their sleeping would be better.

Really is a case of trying and seeing I'm afraid.

Well, we have two in our room at the moment. T is 21 months and N is 12 weeks. I would love to move T to his own room but I am still waiting for H to decorate it!!!! Its not ideal but we survive.

It's all going to depend on the child really.  I imagine Z would easily sleep in our room now as she's a deep sleeper, another child who would be more easily disturbed by you going to bed might be more difficult.

Is there an option that the 2 children could share a room ?

Daniel was in with us until 14m while we waited for roof work to be finished on his bedroom - it was fine.

I wanted to go out and change the world but I couldn't find a babysitter.

I thought we would move G when she was 6 months so following the SIDS guidelines up to then, however if her sleep doesn't improve drastically in the next few weeks we won't be doing that. I'm not traipsing down the landing 6 times a night. The cot fits in our room no problem so I'm happy for her to be in here as long as she needs to be.

I posted on DW about this as Izzy is pretty much the last baby I know to not be in her own room.  She's 9 months tomorrow and I still have no intention of moving her out anytime soon.  Lots of replies said that their babies were still in their parents' rooms until well past a year, or if they weren't it was out of space rather than what they wanted.

I think it would depend on the baby and you - Izzy copes pretty well with it and it works for us atm as the cat is in overnight and it means I'm not worried about him trying to get in the bedroom.  But it does mean that  coming up to bed involves creeping around the bedroom (all the creaky floorboards are right by the cot!) and let's not even get into the sex issue!

A friend of mine lives in a 1 bedroom flat. Her 3 year old daughter has slept in their room since birth and will continue to do so until they manage to move. It has been painful for them but they make do.

Pressure is on them now though to move as she is pregnant with no.2!

Amy slept in our room till she was about 10 months. Phoebe has only recently moved into the room with Amy and she is now 2 years 2 months.

I was in no hurry to move Phoebe out and found it a much smoother process than when we moved Amy.

L is still in a bedside cot in our room at 15 months.  We are having lots of building work done so I think he may stay with us for a while yet.  It is fine

Izzy was in with us until she was 13 months.  Before that her sleep was so bad I couldn't be bothered to keep traipsing across the landing several times a night.

We're in similar situation.  Only have 2 bed house, but wanted another baby.  Put plans in to have extension built when I fell pregnant.  LO now 5 months old and extension not even started yet.  Realistically, she'll be in our room for at least another 4-5 months, possibly more.  Only downside for us is lack of storage.  Having her in with us is lovely, but having to home all her clothes, nappies and toys in our room is a bit of a pain really!!
