Cot/cot-bed - higher or lower?

  • Cot/cot-bed - higher or lower?

So when H set up the cot bed, he put the cot in its highest position. This was so there won't be too much leaning over to pick the baby up if they were resting in there.

Now the reality is, that they won't be sleeping in the cot-bed until they outgrow their moses basket anyway - however long this takes! So is it safer to have the cotbed in it's highest or lowest position - say they're 8-10 weeks by that stage? If it's safer to have it at the lower position, then I'd rather that and I'm happy to lean over the cot that bit further!

It might also mean we'll be able to buy a musical mobile for the cot after all - in it's highest position, the baby could pull a mobile onto them so we had to bring one back!

as long as they can't pull themselves up and climb out then i think the higher position is fine. i don't think they can do this until about 6 months but i'm afraid i don't really remember (how terrible, my son is only 16 months so it wasn't THAT long ago!!!). certainly they can't at 8-10 weeks unless they are superbaby x

G is still sleeping in her crib but we use the cotbed as a safe place to leave her when running the bath, etc, etc. We use it at the highest setting and she is 4 months. Once she can pull herself up, we will move it down one setting (probably around the time that she will be going to use the cot bed for sleeping in).

Thanks ladies! I wa spanicking that they could be able to somehow fall out of the cot bed, don't know how, just an insecure mother-to-be thought!

If we keep it on the higher setting though, we may have to leave the musical mobile alone, the ones we looked at just aren't high enough above the cot!
