GF that's good to know that they don't have the foldover sleeves, will maybe just look at M&S for the vests and short sleeve bits.

As our baby will be a summer one (due end of July) do you think long sleeve bits will be too warm??

Maisy what a cute picture! I love the bright colours Smile

Hep, you'll get vests for even cheaper than £3 each because the multi packs from Asda are 7 vests for about £10.  I've only really bought cheapy ones TBH except for a Pooh and Tigger gro that I got from Debs for £10 because I fell in love! Remember you will need some things washed in newborn and 0-3 month size because of all the crap they put on them in the factory to keep them looking nice.  We've washed everything we've had to date now and the plan is to hang on to anything more we receive as gifts till we see what size babySC comes out at.  My pregnancy book says it's a rite of passage to send Dad to the shops with packaged babygros etc to swap them for a different size!

I have to say that I haven't bothered with an early baby size, when you start washing stuff you'll see the huge variation in size (H&M ones are weird, they seem really 'skinny' but not small as such!) so you will just end up using whatever is the right size for your baby.  You'll want layers for a summer baby at a guess - probably some babygros to use without a vest, and then vests with trousers/little cardis to keep them snug.  Remember the baby will always need one more layer than you as they lose heat very quickly, so except in the height of summer you may need it more covered up than you think.  You'll get given a lot too as you get nearer - both new stuff as gifts and people will offer you second hand as well (this can be a mixed blessing, we've had stuff that looks as new and stuff that is so over washed it will be very much a last resort!).

Thanks SC99 I hadn't thought of buying any little trousers TBH! I've just been looking at the sleepsuits, short sleeve babygros and also vests. Plus a couple of cardis.

Perhaps I do need to look at a couple of pairs of little people trousers....?

Hi Hepburn, am not on here much but liked reading this thread as I was thinking much the same as you re bright colours when expecting my first. I really loved some of the H&M stuff, they do v cute rompers for the summer which are basically short-sleeved knee-length all-in-ones. More "outfitty" than a babygro, and I think they looked nicer than vest & trousers, cos babies don't exactly have waists so you get giant belly overhang (or was that just my podgy boy...). Gap also had nice things like this, and I loved the toby tiger though could never bring myself to spend quite that much once I'd found the H&M ones (I did find their winter stuff to be less exciting though). Other shops to try are Du Pareil Au Meme, and Polarn o Pyret which is hideously expensive but gorgeous. Pumpkin Patch were also good. But I also had a couple of M&S multipacks of "newborn" and "0-3 months" and kept the receipts so we could take them back if they weren't needed.

Also still worth getting a couple of multipacks of white / cream stuff in case all the other stuff gets pooed on and you run out of things to wear! Can get through quite a few changes in one day, despite them growing out of it all in the space of a few weeks. You can always take it back if you never use it.

Thank you apiskidu - Will have a look at those websites Smile I agree about the short legged short sleeve rompers, they look so cute! I don't really see the point in buying trousers if I've got a few of these sort of rompers that I can put a short sleeve babygro or vest underneath.

Think we're getting a few plain white bits for emergencies from Mothercare, and they can also be used for nighttime sleeps.

    Thanks

Def get some long sleeved stuff.  Last summer was baking hot and Izzy (born 19th June) spent a vast amount of time in just a nappy or a little summer dress.  But not every summer is like that (I was gutted, I love the sun and I spent virtually the whole time inside with a baby feeding on me!), remember babies need to be in one layer more than you would wear.  On slightly cooler days you could go with a long sleeved bodysuit under a t-shirt.  End of July really only leaves you with one, maybe 2 months of hot weather if we're lucky (fingers crossed we are)!

one thing we found really good was wrap around vests, so not ones that go over the head and then popper under the bottom but ones that go on like a shirt more and only go down to the waist - if they then have sleepsuits over the top they don't ride up or anything and I found them a LOT less hassle with nappy changes. think the ones we got were from mothercare but can't remember for certain, fitted for much longer too because obviously body length wasn't so much of an issue
