Nursery/ birthday party invitation etiquette!

Izzy has had her first birthday party invitation through nursery today. I confess I have no idea who the child is (I've probably seen her in passing!) but I'm gathering they're almost the same age as Izzy. We've not been in our area all that long so I really haven't met many local mums etc (nursery drop off/ pick up tends to be an in and out quickly job) so I'd really like Izzy to go along to this party and I'm touched that she's been invited. Trouble is I'm not sure what the form is when it's Izzy's birthday in May with regards to who to invite! Do I ask at nursery who her 'friends' are and just invite the main ones? She's only at nursery 3 days a week so I guess there are probably some children she sees more of than others! Help, I'm clueless and don't want to cause major offense!

We are preparing for S's birthday party right now. I spoke to nursery and they offered to whittle down the whole class list to mark out the children that S particularly played with.

In the end, because we've gone completely OTT we invited the whole class and many of our Hitcher friends too. AFAIK though, we're the only people to have done this - S has had only a couple of invitations herself in over 2 years at the nursery, and in fact she's attending one this weekend that I know the children were hand-picked for - no-one's taking offence if they weren't invited though!

So in short, have a chat with nursery, see if they can identify her besties, and decide how many you want to pay for (we have over 30 coming now but I am quite looking forward to the riot, it's not at my house lol!)
