  • I've moved to a new level of slinging

Since Zoe reached one I've been doing back carries but mainly with my Beco as, despite trying lots of times, i couldn't get the hang of it in the babyhawk.

I have always been trying the hip wiggle one (where you put them on and then slide them around to your back) but it just never ended up very comfortable.  Today I decided to have ago at the santa toss (where you kind of put the sling under their arms and then lift them up and swing on to your back).  I had thought this looked so much harder but in actual fact Zoe ended up in a much better position and we happily cooked dinner like that - I have to sling her when I'm cooking or she sits in the middle of the kitchen shrieking.

I'm feeling rather proud of myself although not sure I'm quite ready to do it in public but hopefully with a few more days practice I'll be totally confident.  I do think it made a huge difference that Zoe was old enough to know she had to hold on.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

    Well done!!

So which sling did you manage this with JB....i have a babyhawk and wondered if it was possible?

  • Re: I've moved to a new level of slinging

Pody, it was the babyhawk so yes it's definitely possible.  There are lots of demo videos on YouTube which I found helpful.

Pea in a Pod, yes Zoe sits and plays with my hair and tickles my neck !   She is generally peering over one shoulder or the other so even if I had my hair in a ponytaile it wouldn't be sticking in her face IYSWIM.

PC, I felt I really should get to grips with it if I'm going to become an agent !

Well done for the santa toss! I usually use the hip shuffle as I worry I'll forget which arm to cross over and which way to toss him.
These gymnastics are a great 'party trick' during sling demos - everyone looks horrified then chuckles when they see Zac grinning with every jiggle into position.

I've done many a dinner with a sling too.

My son hasn't done any hair-playing. I guess he's busy looking further afield. I put my hair in a ponytail but don't pull it totally through the scrunchie the last time so it is half the length; or quickly wrap it into a bun with scrunchie round it. If I leave the ponytail down he gets flicked in the face, but didn't complain when I forgot this once.
