I was born 11 days overdue, spontaneous vaginal delivery.

My mum went to an antenatal appointment at 10 days over in the afternoon, and the MW told mum she was in labour and 4cm dilated, although my mum wasn't feeling any pain whatsoever. Fast forward to 11pm that night, she had one pain, then 30 minutes later had another and from then on it was back to back contractions and I arrived at 2.20am. I weight 7lb 2oz's and my mum stayed in for 4 days after I was born, which was the norm then, but mainly because my dad was in a full leg cast having been in a motorcycle accident a few weeks before I was born!

She's always said that it was horrid and much preferred my sister longer but more conventional labour and birth to my rapid one that left her in shock for a little while.

Oddly, both, myself and H were born 11 days overdue, as was our daughter, so I'm not holding out much hope for this one which is already following in his parents and sister's footsteps!

I was an induction, t about 10 days overdue. I'm the 2nd of my mum's 3 babies, but as my big bro was an emergency CS due to cord strangulation, I was mum's first VB.

I was born on the 21st june, which was apparently the middle of a heatwave. Mum was in a maternity home thingy, not a big hospital. I only have my dad's account to go on as mum died wen i was 21, but he says that he stayed with mum for most of the labour, but he was shooed out when it was time to push. They took mum through to delivery and Dad sat in the waiting room. He said I arrived super-quickly as he picked up the only available newspaper and  started to do the crossword. He hadn't even finished the crossword - and the paper was The Sun so it was an easy one! - when they called him through to meet me!

I was breastfed for a few weeks but mum had to stop due to awful mastitis and no support. She did go on to BF my little brother for over a year, so extended breastfeeding runs in the family!

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born about a week late, 28 hour active labour before ventouse delivery. All in the local hospital, which is also where J was born. I know my mum had pethidine which she alwasy says made me sleepy afterwards.

My sister was born by emergency c-section after mum went into spontaneous labour at 34 weeks, she weighed 5lb 10oz, which is pretty good for 6 weeks early! She was in SCBU for about 10 days IIRC, in the same hospital where I was born.

I was breastfed for 6 weeks and my sister for 13 months. The local hospital now only has a midwife led birth unit so this baby will have to be born elsewhere, which is a bit sad for me.

    Interesting thread!

I was a week early, my Mum was hospitalised from about 34 weeks with high BP. Nethertheless she had a spontaneous vaginal delivery with gas and air. 18 hours from start to finish.

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I don't know whether I was early or late, but I was a straightforward VB in July 1979. My brother was the difficult one and my mother suffered from PND quite badly afterwards as it went undiagnosed.

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born 2 days early (funnily enough Toby and I had the same due date!) naturally at Blackpool hospital. I think it was relatively straightforward.

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was due on 18th June (my dad's 30th birthday) and was induced on 22nd, 4 days late, as my mum had developed severe pre-eclampsia.  My mum's experience was not a positive one - I'm sketchy on the details but I know that at one point a midwife slapped her round the face and told her not to be so silly when she was getting upset.  I also know that they gave her a drug while my dad was out of the room that knocked her out totally for a couple of hours - my dad came back and thought she was dying because he had no idea why she would be unconscious.  When she came round they were trying to site an epidural (on an unconscious woman - why?!) and she told them to get the hell off her.  When she delivered me I had the cord looped round my neck and was navy blue and floppy.  I also had 'something wrong with my feet' which having read stuff on here I suspect was positional talipes?  I was around 7.5lb.  The drug they gave her was not recorded on her notes and when they realised that her and another lady on the ward were talking about their experience with this drug (she remembers it was in a green canister different from the gas and air) they separated them.  She thinks it was probably unlicenced and being tested basically.

Her second birth was marginally better although again she had PET and was induced - however because she knew what was going on this time, she basically lied about how far along she was until she was ready to push so there was no way they'd try to give her an epidural.  When it came to bracing her legs on the MWs hips as people used to, she got the MW who slapped her when she had me so she kicked her across the room!

She was told not to have a third baby due to the PET getting worse with my brother - she was told they couldn't guarantee a healthy outcome for either her or the baby, so my dad went and did the 'honourable thing' and had the snip.

From what I know (think my mum didnt want to scare me too much) I was a day early and she had gas and air, maybe something else as well. They went to the wrong hospital and had been doing practice runs to the wrong one for weeks (there were 2 in the town). She hasnt said it was particularly tough, think my brother who came next was the worse birth experience.

She was induced 2 weeks early with my brother because she had only put on 1lb in her entire pregnancy and they thought the baby was struggling and starving so induced her. She had an epidural and according to her it still wasnt enough and went on for hours and hours. He actually ended up being the heaviest baby of the 3 of us so gok what he would have weighed if term and it must have been that my mum just lost weight herself. She says she felt like they were always accusing her of not eating!

I'm another one born in Blackpool Victoria Hospital. I don't know much about my birth but I do know that I was due on 25th May and was born 2nd June, the day before I would have been induced otherwise. I was born vaginally and I do know from a comment my mum made when I was pregnant that she had pethidine.

My sister was born on her due date, she'd been breech right up until the end but when Mum went for a check up the day before she was born, she had turned.

I was born 2 day before my due date, I was a straight forward VB and I know that my mum just had G&A, I know that she was home pretty quickly as Mum and Dad ran a pub and she could afford to be off lol.  I was slung around the pub from being a newborn and I was BF until I was over 3yrs

I was forcep delivered by Prof Winston - the chap off the Tv with the moustache! Big Smile

My mum had been in hospital on bed rest from being around 12 weeks pregnant due to previous miscarriages. I know she had an epidural and went for 9 hours before needing one. My dad says all the midwives had gone off watching Coronation Street!

Mummy to Edie born 5 weeks early on 16-06-2010 5lb110z.

I was born very late too - it was well over the 2 week mark, more like 3-4 weeks late!

I was a homebirth, born on a Saturday morning (before the carnival that started by our road) very easily with no complications.  I was #3.

The only interesting thing about my birth was that I was delivered by a nun and got my second name from her!

Was due on Valentines Day but was 5 days early, and was 4th baby.  Dad dropped mum off at the hospital at 4.30am (literally dropped her off outside, then went home) and I was born at 5.05am weighing 8lb 9oz.

Mum always says the worst bit was the drive to the hospital in the cold along a very bumpy road.

i was born 2 weeks early.  im not sure of all the details as my mum says its all a bit of a blur.  but she was in labour for 23 hours, had epidural and i was a forceps delivery.

i was breastfed for 6 weeks.

my mum suffered quite badly from PND and was only diagnosed when i was 18 months.  she then went on to have my sister 6 and a half years later.  she was 2 and a half weeks overdue, her waters went and there was muconium so she had an emergency csection.  my sister was BF for 10 days.

i still get shocked when i hear about MILs pregnancy with SIL (SIL is 30), MIL went to the GP when she thought she was pregnant, GP tested and MIL was told a few days later the test was positive (i think in those days the tests were sent away) anyway, the GP said he would arrange midwife follow up so MIL waited and waited and no followup appointment came.  MIL got intouch with the hospital and was told the GP needed to send a refferal, the GP agreed to re-refer, and still no MW appointement.  MIL then just waited and waited.  she says that she didnt want to question the Dr again and presumed that she didnt need to be seen until delivery Eek anyway MIL went into labout at 8 months and SIL was double breech (which i think is when SILs legs were up and she was being delivered bottom first) so MIL ended up turning up at hospital and needing an emergency section under GA.  MIL and FIL werent allowed to see SIL for 4 days as she was apparently 'very jaundiced' so they had no idea what was happening etc.  MIL then went on to have quite bad PND following this experience as she blamed herself for not insisting on scans/midwifery care etc.
