  • newbie with a question

Good evening all - I'm not a proper newbie - but it's been YEARS - probably more than two years at least....since I logged on here.

Anyway - I have a question - I am PG - only 4 weeks - very early days - for the past few weeks, I've been having acupuncture for fertility - the week I ovulated, I had quite a bad cold and my acupuncturist said not to have sex this cycle as being ill whilst TTC can cause an unhealthy baby.  Trouble was, we'd already done it - and wouldn't you just know it - that was the one time that we hit the jackpot.

I went for a treatment last night and she was really really negative, said it was very bad to have conceived with a cold and that I should be very careful, not move much and prepare for the worst.

She is a traditional chinese doctor and was really nice, but very very blunt and has scared me a lot - I've googled "conceiving with a cold" and can't find any reference to this but I wondered if anyone else had heard this.

It's not like I need any other things to worry about in early pregnancy is it?

I am finding it hard to be happy about this BFP as I'm just worrying about what she said and wishing it hadn't happened "this" month.....which is stupid as obviously it's great news.

Anyway - what do we think?

    Many thanks - Barbra x

What a ridiculous thung to tell you - how many people have got pregnant when they have a cold or other illness. I'm cross on your behalf that she has made you worry and not be happy about your bfp - esp if the acupunture was for infertility!

Site back, relax and enjoy your bfp.

    Oh and huge congratulations!

    xx

i have never heard of this ! i am sure it is not true, how silly to scare you like that !!! My advice would be to get registered at your gp and talk to him/her about your concerns, but sounds to me like a lot of nonsense !!!!!

    Congratulations on your BFP

thank you - all - for your replies - I know it's complete balderdash - but (clearly this is my hormones) - even though I am a normally sane and rational person, this has really got to me.....am going to try and forget about her and focus on the forthcoming adventure x

Sounds like a load of crap tbh. I bet she just says that in the hope you'll listen so then she'll get another cycle worth of money out of you or maybe I'm just an old cynic. I conceived Jonathan after not only recovering from a horrid skiing injury but then immediately having a nasty flu, oh and then about 3 weeks after my BFP I had a horrid bout of tonsilitis too, and he is just fine. Congrats on your pregnancy x

Oh for goodness sake, the practiotioner is spouting rubbish. The human race would not have survived if a minor ailment like a cold was so bad for reproduction. Try to forget it and relax. XX

Ignore her! if my dates are correct.... we got pregnant when I had swine flu and couldnt leave the house! (what else were we supposed to do! Haha!ROTFL)

I think shes talking a load of baloney, try not to worry too much about it.

I've been having acupuncture for my headaches and also for fertility too and continued throughout my pregnancy. She is talking nonsense! My acupuncturist has never said anything of the sort when I have had a cold etc and has made me feel at ease and is always very positive. Is she a member of the British Acupuncture council?

Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy Smile

Honestly, I think that's really bad form of her to say these things, regardless of whether it is her belief or not.  And I agree with others that it is actually a load of sh*te.  I've certainly never heard of it before.  There must be a very significant percentage of pregnancies that are conceived with a cold just because they are so common.  Surely if a link was to be made, it would be public knowledge by now.

Barbra - your username is so familiar.  I certainly remember you.  But I can't remember where from, IYSWIM and it's bugging me!  Did we get married at the same time (summer 05?) or where you a SW London girl back in the days that I was?

Congratulations btw.  Relax and enjoy x

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I actually think that not only is that utter rubbish, but it's really irresponsible of her to be saying things like that to clients. I'm actually really cross on your behalf! I would definitely go and see your GP and I wouldn't see this woman again.
