  • Anyone had a growth scan at 37 weeks?

I am under a consultant at the hospital for a few health problems and today I had an appointment for my last check up, I saw one of the consultants registra who I have seen before and she seems to like giving ladies scans. The last registra I saw went and spoke to the consultant and they said I wouldnt need one as they wont be able to see much, so that was that and I just got used to the fact that I wasnt having a scan, then today when I went along to the check up she checked the babies position and felt for the size, she said the baby was average size and she was happy with that, but then said she wants me to have a scan just to check the size. Im excited about seeing my baby again but I had a growth scan with my daughter at 35wks and they told me she was 7lb infact she was 9lb 2oz.

Im wondering if at 37 weeks you can see much of the baby?

I would imagine it fills the whole screen, I would like to get a scan picture if possible but then again they may not be able to give me a picture if you cant see it very well.

    Hi there

I had growth scans at 37 weeks for both my son and daughter and you see pretty much all of them, just not all at once like you do at earlier scans! You can get a good view of the head and face but mine were very quick as they measured all the different bits. I wasn't offered scan pics although I guess if I had asked they might have given me one.

Ultrasound for growth is not hugely reliable - it is more accurate for average sized babies than for small or large babies.  My son was estimated to be around 9lb and he was 9lb 10.5oz but he was almost 2 weeks late.  My daughter was estimated at 9lb but was 8lb 5oz at 5 days overdue.

    Hope that helps

I had loads of scans, i was under consultant care due to an ovarian cyst amongst other things. I wasn't given a scan picture past 20 weeks as they were quick scans to  check the size and position of my cyst more than anything.

I don't recall there being much to see as he was big by that point and you could only really see one part of him on the screen at any time. We did see a lovely picture of his face though but only on screen.

I had another at 39+4 to double check the cyst and to make sure he was no longer breech!

All i was ever told was he was a "nice size" not big or small, he was born weighing 8lb 5oz

I had quite a few late scans with A for growth (he was big) and also for position (which i didnt realise at the time!!), I was told pictures are pointless at that stage cos they are too big.

You do get to see a fair bit on screen though.

I had my last one at 36 weeks and we couldnt see much as she fills the screen so much now. If they take their time though, it's amazing when they point out things like the hands/feet as they are so detailed.

Our hospital doesnt do pcitures for scans past 28 weeks as they cant get good enough ones apparently. We did ask as I like getting ones of parts other than profile like feet.

I love scans that are different, I remember someone had a scan of a foot, it was so clear and I love that one, our 20wk wasnt that good to see as baby was in the wrong position so would love something a bit different, but not building my hopes up.

i had one at 38wks, all he did was measure the babys (not sure either head or abdomen) and said yep measuring correct .. said it will be of average birth weight..so kept  me happy as everyone whos been given a weight has panicked and then the doc has been completly wrong..

I had one at 37 weeks in my 2nd pregnany tbh we couldn't really pick out much at all, there was just no room in there! He was estimated 6 lb 13 at 37 weeks and predicted to be between 8 and 8 lb 7 at 40 weeks. I nearly fell off the couch as M had been 6 lb 10 at 41 weeks Laugh he was in fact 7 lb 7 at 39+3

This is my last scan pic which was taken at about 26 weeks.

I didn't get any pictures after this as they really were too big, and we were having scans every two weeks so I felt like I was already taking up a lot of their time and didn't want to waste any more of their time.

I always remember having to look at 4 legs each time we went and they were such lovely looking legs... love the fact I get to tickle those knees every day now.

    Enjoy your extra scan!

I had one at 40+5 and no we couldn't see a thing really except for an amorphous blob!

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks (i think!) with Izzy, forget what they estimated her as being at that time, but they predicted her as being 10lb 7oz. She was born at 41 weeks weighing 10lb 6oz!

We have a gorgeous 'face on' scan piccie of her, you can see her chubby cheeks and during the scan we were even shown her hair! It was incredible!

Wow Sarahm that sounds amazing, I think its really special when they treat you like a human in the scans and not just a hospital number. I think every hospital is different so I think I will take some money just incase for a piccie.
