    Hi Claire

Thanks for sending the package to me Smile

I've not ordered the book yet, going to do it this afternoon.

Can you let me know how it's best to use the CD though in the meantime? Do I just stick it on and listen to it or am I supposed to practice breathing etc while listening to it?

Is it more for relaxation etc?

    TIA!

    x

Hi Hepburn, good to know 1st class actually means 1st class!

Try to listen to it at the same time every day so your body and mind are expecting it, this is usually bedtime for most people. Make sure you've been for one (or 2!) wees, nothing worse than getting comfy and realising you need a wee! Wear loose clothing and make sure you're not too warm / hot. Find a comfortable position and put on the cd. I'd skip to number 2 and save the affirmations for another time. Make sure you won't be disturbed.

The best 'type' of breathing to start with is sleep breathing which is basically in for 4 and out for 8 but don't worry about the numbers or try to force it, just aim for longer on the out breath. You should be breathing into your belly (like babies do, they're experts and we're not!) so on the in breath focus on making your belly rise, on the out breath focus on your chest and shoulders sinking. Your natural relaxed breathing will take over when you relax and you'll stop thinking about it, don't try to think too much about the 4 and 8 or you'll stop being relaxed.

The lateral position is good for this, see if you can find an image online it'll be easier than me describing it, or on your back with pillows wherever you need them for support (under knees, shoulders, even elbows to allow the sinking feeling)

And you will fall asleep! Don't worry about missing the end it's fine, there is no magical message in the last 5 minutes (one of my clients got all stressed that she couldn't possible achieve a HypnoBirth if she didn't hear the whole cd!)

Oh and let me know how it goes and if you want anything else.

    Happy relaxing xx

Thank you so much! This is very useful Smile

I'll upload it onto the iPod and try it tonight at bedtime. I've done a couple of relaxation sessions at spas and always fallen asleep before so I'd imagine this will have a similar effect.

Will google the lateral position now as well and try for that if it's comfy.

Is the idea to help relax me then initially?

Assuming you'd put both tracks on repeat during labour and use breathing to control the pain and get into a state of relaxation through it all?

    Thank you again Thanks xxx

To help you relax and to practise getting into relaxation so your body is so used to doing it that it'll be a doddle when you go into labour!

Just one more thing, in a few weeks when your baby can hear music try to sometimes listen to it on a stereo (not through earphones) so that s/he can hear it too, they will associate the music with relaxation and then you can use it after the birth too for helping them to sleep, fab! You might find s/he wiggles more when you're relaxed as they have more room.

Hepburn - I find I always fall asleep to it! I also tend to have better sleeps when I've listened to it than when I've not x
