Hi Hepburn, good to know 1st class actually means 1st class!
Try to listen to it at the same time every day so your body and mind are expecting it, this is usually bedtime for most people. Make sure you've been for one (or 2!) wees, nothing worse than getting comfy and realising you need a wee! Wear loose clothing and make sure you're not too warm / hot. Find a comfortable position and put on the cd. I'd skip to number 2 and save the affirmations for another time. Make sure you won't be disturbed.
The best 'type' of breathing to start with is sleep breathing which is basically in for 4 and out for 8 but don't worry about the numbers or try to force it, just aim for longer on the out breath. You should be breathing into your belly (like babies do, they're experts and we're not!) so on the in breath focus on making your belly rise, on the out breath focus on your chest and shoulders sinking. Your natural relaxed breathing will take over when you relax and you'll stop thinking about it, don't try to think too much about the 4 and 8 or you'll stop being relaxed.
The lateral position is good for this, see if you can find an image online it'll be easier than me describing it, or on your back with pillows wherever you need them for support (under knees, shoulders, even elbows to allow the sinking feeling)
And you will fall asleep! Don't worry about missing the end it's fine, there is no magical message in the last 5 minutes (one of my clients got all stressed that she couldn't possible achieve a HypnoBirth if she didn't hear the whole cd!)
Oh and let me know how it goes and if you want anything else.
Happy relaxing xx
