  • Can you diet when pregnant?

I want to lose some weight and it had been my intention to plan something out for myself but now that I am pregnant not sure whether I can still follow it.

The medical advice is not to diet when pregnant but to eat healthily and not overeat by eating for two. So if your diet is not eating cakes, etc then it would be OK. But you shouldn't do restrictive calorie counting diets.

If you get bad morning sickness you might not feel like eating anyway in the early weeks.

So is there a minimum amount I should eat then calorie wise when pregnant? I thought that tbh you didn't need to eat anything 'extra' as such for the baby?

I think it's better to think about cutting out empty calories rather than calories all together, things like cakes and crisps (which with morning sickness might be just about all you want!).

Drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruit and veg, same as recommended anyway.

Actually all I have wanted has been meat! I don't normally eat a lot of meat. I'm not thinking of stopping eating I guess just re-organising my eating habits and exercising more to lose weight.
