  • Anyone switched to hungry baby formula? or switched any formula I guess

On Saturday just gone we switched L onto Aptamil Hungry Baby from Aptamil 1. He seemed to want feeding constantly yet would only take the same amount of ozs at each feed. So, Saturday night was fine, he took to it no problem (well there has been sick after each feed which never happened with Aptamil 1) and Sunday too. Then Monday we had the V&D so he only had water and then Tuesday was half measures of formula to water. Wednesday he was back to normal measures. We thought it would make him constipated a little but I'm thinking the amount of water he's had lately has put a stop to that so we've just had normal soiled nappies. I would have thought that yesterday the "hungry baby" effect would have kicked in and the thickness of this formula would fill him up more but he still seemed to want to feed every 2hours and take same amount of ozs. Last night was the same and this morning too. IMO this formula is making him an even hungrier baby Laugh

Anyway, onto my question. How long would you say it takes for the switch to take effect? We need to buy another box of milk this weekend and I'm in two minds to switch back to Aptamil 1 as he's feeding exactly the same just with a sick after each bottle. He's never been a sicky baby and the amount of clothes I've gone through this week alone is unreal.

We were advised to switch when R was about 8wks i think. The HV said it should kick in about 4 days to a week later but it was about 10 days , no idea why it took so long and even then i wasn't the miracle i was hoping for.

R was having 9-13oz 2-3 hourly , when we swicted he was having the same amout but 3-4 hourly. It then went back to 2-3 hourly and he wouldn't always last that long.

With the support of H/V we started to give him baby rice at 17 weeks as he was constantly crying and a bottle was the only thing to pacify him and believe me we tried everything.

Even with rice he still has 9 ozs 2-3 hourly.

We switched from Hipp 1 to Hipp 2 quite a while back to see if it would make a difference and it has done for us - IIRC it happened within a week. The past few days he has been feeding every 2 hours but he is approaching 16 weeks next week and he has a rotten cold so I'm putting it down to that. If L has been poorly maybe he si trying to stock himself back up IYKWIM?

One thing the HV told me (I don't know how true it is) is that the hungrier baby formulas have a different milk protein in that some babies can find hard to digest.

Wow, 9ozs every 2hours! That is a hungry baby. Louie won't take anymore than 5ozs at any time. We've tried so many bottles but he just stops at 5ozs. That's it, I'm finished mum.

Interested to hear it wasn't that successful for you guys.

This is what I'm wondering with the sick. He was never sick after a bottle from day one (how lucky are we!) but with this he's bringing back some of the bottle each feed.

Maybe it's worth trying a different brand of formula?

Mr K accidentally got C&G which led to some disgusting nappies, but he is fine on Hipp Organic, it goes down really well.
