  • Wedding date dilema!

    Hi all,

I am so excited because about 2 weeks ago in Prague, me and my boyfriend finally decided to get married after 13 years together - eeek! Surprise

Anyway; after the intial excitement we thought we better sit down and have a conversation about setting a date - this is where the dilema comes in.

Last year, we both agreed that we would start trying for a baby at the end of 2010, which would be just after my 32nd birthday; with this in mind, I was really keen to schedule our wedding date before the end of April 2011 so that if I was fortunate enought to get pregnant quickly, it wouldn't be too obvious (I'm actually quite keen on a winter wedding anyway!).

Unfortunately my boyfriend is really keen on a summer wedding and can't see the point of spending £4k or £5k on a nice venue when it's likley to be cold and rainy  - he doesn't seem to get that I really don't want to a) risk being pregnant if we have a summer 2011 wedding or b) put off havaing kids a my age for another 6 months (I know some people don't think 32/33 is that old to have kids; but I always wanted kids when I was in my late 20s and so 32 already seems way overdue iykwim). Confused

Anyway; not sure why I am posting this - I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for a confused newbie!! Big Smile

    Thanks!

    Amber

PS: I just can't wait to have a date so that I can start planning and worrying about all the nice things like dresses, invitations and cakes!! lol Wink

I think the weather is so unpredictable these days I don't think it would make any difference if you had in in April or August to be honest.  I think it was a couple of years ago that we had the hottest April ever which was actually better than the weather in the summer.  And you could also have a rainy cold day in summer or winter x

Your OH may not want to spend 5K on a venue if the weather is rubbish but would he want to pay 10K for a venue in summer and the weather is still rubbish?? lol. Just a thought because we are currently trying to settle on a date and have had quotes from venues which are as much as double for the summer months compared to autumn/winter. So we've decided it's just not worth the extra especially, as other's have said, our summer weather is so unpredicable anyway.

Good luck! And congrats on the engagement.

I HATE cold weather but the idea of a winter christmassy wedding would be lovely, would that work for you??

I was just about to say this September! I'm getting married on the 8th Sept.  You can easily get it planned in time (esp with the help from us lot!).  Pre baby and winter/summer! Sounds perfect to me. :D x

Oh, Welcome to Hitched and congratulations of finally getting around to the wedding bit!

    OM since 8-9-10

Thanks for the advice (and congrats) everyone Smile

MsCheerful/VickyJay: I'm totally with you on the weather thing; I would love to be able to guarantee a sunny summers day - but as we live in England...that's just not something you can count on - and yep; I suspected the prices would be a lot higher in the summer; so thanks for confirming that (it's probably just the ammo I need to get him to change his mind lol).

Deborah/Mrs Spink: Yeah a September wedding would be really nice; although two of my bridesmaids (best friends) will be flying in from the US and Australia and so not sure if that would give them enough time to save for the flights.  But as you say; with some help from you guys, hopefully it would be achievable time-wise (just got to beg my friends to come over earlier!!)Tongue Tied

Steelgodess: I would sooooooo love to have a Christmas wedding; Christmas is my fav time of year as it's my birthday then too - I'd love to get married in the middle of December with twinkley lights and mulled wine etc; but I think it would take a lot of persuading to get my boyfriend to even consider it Sad

Right - time to work on convincing him on a September-April (but hopefully Dec) wedding...I'm giving him an option of any 6 months from the year...surely that's fair! lol

    Amber x
