Poor you - they have horrible side effects for som people.  I've been taking Spatone during this pregnancy to try and keep levels up before the birth, I want a home birth and didn't want low iron levels to be an issue.  I would highly recommend it - no side effects and its worked.  You can get it in Tesco and Boots.

    constipation.

I've heard good things about spatone, and you can always eat dried apricots, red meat, leafy green veg, drink OJ, etc.

I felt miles better once I stopped taking them too.

I have been on iron tablets during both pregancys and after birth too. The side effects were awful and making me feel worse so I started using spa tone in a glass of orange juice instead and I felt better within a few days I highly recommend them.

I only managed 4 days - constipation was really not what i needed with stitches etc! oh and the black poo freaked me out until i googled side effects!!

I have to confess that I didn't even open the packet - I had some when I was pregnant and had awful SEs so when I was told I needed them again I decided to go down the steak and guinness route and I felt back to normal in a couple of weeks.

constipation, wind, black poo - all lovely stuff

I took lower than the dose they told me to, one every other day or something, and ended up having to have my levels checked for ages afterwards. I think F was about 20 weeks when I finally finished them all. I'm going to eat brocolli and dried apricots for every meal if I have anotherLaugh
