  • To those that gave up smoking when you found out you were pregnant........

Did you start again when the baby was born?   As soon as I found out I was pregnant I went completely cold turkey and haven't smoked since 30th September 2009 (not that I'm counting eh Laugh ).   In all honesty though I can only say I've been tempted a couple of times but have resisted.  I'm just wondering if once the baby is here and I'm having an odd night out, I'll be able to resist.   I think I will as I don't want to start again, I know it's harmful to be around a baby if you've just had a cigarette anyway (even if you've been outside etc).

So to those that gave up whilst pregnant did you stay a non-smoker or did you start again?

I was never a heavy smoker, more of a social one but gave up altogether when I was pg. I do now have the odd one, normally on a night out, or chatting to a friend on the phone in the evening.

I don't smoke around E or when he is awake, so basicially only ever have one in the evening if I'm with/chatting to friends.

I used to smoke about 15 a day.  Now he is 4 months old, I have only smoked when I have been drinking.  It has worked for me.  I thought about fags and vodka all the way through my pregnancy Laugh, best thing that I ever did stopping for him though.  I could not push a pram and smoke.  Whenever I have been smoking and come in, its clean teeth about 40 times, wash hands about 60 times and make sure I don't breathe on him for ages.

I was the same really, more a social smoker when I went out or having a couple in the evening with a glass of wine.

I gave up when pg with R and started again when he was 3 months old, was the worst thing i ever did.It started as an evening or social thing and developed in to a full blown habit. I gave up again when pg with M and am determind not to start.

My parents smoked and when i was littl;e i hated it, i don't want to put my kids through that.

I gave up on 20th MArch 2007 when I got my BFP with J.

I didn't miss it at all whilst pregnant & didn't even touch a cigarette until July 2008 when I was VERY drunk at a friend's wedding (my mum had J for the day!). I think I smoked 2. Felt sick as a dog the next day because I could still taste it!

I think I have smoked once or twice sine then. Always when I am drunk. I would never start properly again though as the taste the next day is rank! God knows how I used to smoke 20 a day! Embarrassed Ick!

I gave up the day I found out I was pregnant - 1/2/09, I haven't had one since A was born 16/10/09 but there's not a day that goes by when I don't think about smoking! I hope I don't go back to it. I haven't had a drink yet because of breast feeding and there's always the worry that I will have one when I drink (week Icon!!)

NOOOOOOO! LOL. I was mainly a social smoker. I have no problems quitting until I start to go out and be around other smokers when drinking. (so that won't be happening for a long long time) Like handbag, I never smoke/smoked around my kids or in the house/car. I haven't missed it at all this time. Not smoked since new years and hopefully won't ever go back to it. The smell makes me sick now and I hate it when people smoke around children or inconsiderately. I think because I know smoking is bad and socially unexceptable with most people, I never considered myself to be a smoker so it was easier to stop IYSWIM?

I tried cutting down from 20a day when I was pregnant with J but once I got to about 10 weeks pregnant, I was quite literally vomiting when I lit up so I just stopped.

I haven't started again, I haven't smoked for 7 years now, bur I miss it SO much! I even have dreams where I smoke. Laugh

I haven't the willpower to just have one though - if I had one I'd be hopelessly hooked again.

I gave up smoking as soon as I got my BFP and have not had one since. I have not stopped eating since instead. Sad The first 3 months were crazy, must have put on a stone!

I miss it something shocking though and walk really closely to people who smoke, like some weirdo with no personal boundaries, or even ask friends to blow smoke on me(they refuse). Laugh It smells so gooood though..I dont like how people smell after they have smoked however, it's gross.

I will try my best to stay off the smokes as we are saving so much money(H quit at the same time), and I dont want to put the baby at risk, but it will be hard.

I think what stopped me from going back to it was realising how badly people smelled after having a cigarette and realising that I didn't want my child smelling the same way through no fault of their own. Plus I loved having my tastebuds back and the extra money.

I did the passive smoking thing as well though! Laugh

I gave up about a week after getting a bfp in July 2006.  I read Allan Carr's 'The Easyway to stop smoking' and I think some of it must have stayed with me as I haven't smoked since.  There are a handful of times I've felt like having a cigarette but it's been a passing notion rather than a real craving and I have to say, I am SO glad I don't smoke any more.  I'd smoked at least 20 a day for 15 years too!

i'm the same as Mixie - was 20 a day at least for about 14 years, then cold turkey for me, no books or anything.  I've had the odd one since when I've been drunk, but nothing more.

Don't miss it and definitely don't miss the spending money out for them!
