So the baby can't have Easter Eggs then?

Bangyheadman agogo. We had the same thing, thankfully for her first Christmas rather than easter (no, she doesn't need a selection box at 9m FFS).

Even now I'm not expecting her to have an egg.

Aaron is going to be given one by MIL - she has already told me - i told her i would eat it and she said..

He will find out about chocolate eventually you know - when he goes to nursey when all the others kids are having it ....

But don't you know babies love chocolate. If you don't give it now they'll only end up eating lots when they're older as they're "deprived" of it now. Plus chocolate doesn't cause tooth decay, only toffees do that.  This was said by my FIL when I was pregnant - oh and we're both dentists but obviously they forgot to teach us the bit about chocolate not causing decay in our 5 years at dental school.

i feel your pain my MIL is the same although now C is 19m i have got no chance of him not getting an egg but it will be snaffled away for me later!

my MIL even always buys my H a egg even though he hates choc and hasnt eaten it in 15yrs! even my 89yr old gran remembers he doesnt like choc shame his own mother cant

we also got moaned at last year as we refused to buy his sister and brother (19 and 22) and egg as it was just silly we got told we were mean.

my mum is the polar posite tho and refuses to buy her grandkids (19m and 3yr) a egg as kids sont need them she is going to buy them a book each instead or maybe  a zoo ticket or something

I had the same conversation with my MIL but O is 14 months. It's not that i have a problem with O having a small bit of chocolate every now and then but what would he want with a whole egg?

Besides if i say they can get him an egg in theory that would mean he could end up with eggs from everyone! My family are more reasonable and understanding and either won't bother, will buy him a small toy or give him some money for his money box.

Her answer to me prefering him not to have an egg was well a white chocolate one would be ok wouldn't it? Erm no, i would prefer he had milk chocolate rather than white which has little to do with chocolate at all!!

My Mil was put on this planet to annoy me i think!

It's the attitude thats annoying me TBH - the assumption that I'm doing it to deprive them from doing something with Toby and the lack of respect for our parenting choices. <sigh> Still at least I'm not on my own!

EGIW - White chocolate isn't even chocolate!

Wow I have to say my MIL is completely different. She keeps saying how we know much more now how to bring babies up and how she wishes she had a baby now as she'd know much more about what to do, rather than back in the 70s.

My Mum is similar. So when I ask for advice I get no help...

My H and I only the other day polished off an egg which was given to our two year old last Easter and got forgotten about at the back of the cupboard . She was given lots of eggs even though we didn't buy her one. Far too many for a small child. It was our duty to help her out.

Its best at the sweet giving moment just to say 'thank you' and take them and hide them quick.

lol, my mum just text to ask if sarah was allowed an easter egg because she has found a really cute one and 'I'll make sure its white chocolate', yes mother, because obvously white choc is better for her and has no sugar etc! In fairness its the first time she has asked a daft question and is going along with current guidlines/whatever I tell her I'm doing etc but i think because she is coming over at easter she has gone a bit doolally for it!! I'm half tempted to say yes and eat it myself!!

I love reading threads like this (no offence intended). It helps me to smile and breathe when I go to see my In Laws, knowing I'm not the only one going through this sort of stuff. I'm always getting into "discussions" over wat Jess eats the other day I was told she shouldn't eat apples they are bad for her teeth so when my back was turned they swapped it for a chocolate bar!

He won't necessarily at nursery.  Izzy's nursery provide all the food during the day and it doesn't include chocolate. Same at pre-school unless she stayed for lunch when the children bring their own lunches but chocolate and sweets are discouraged.

Izzy gets something like 10 easter eggs from our family each year and of course I have to "help" her.  I don't mind her having a bit of chocolate but there is a limit.  I have more of a problem with my mum giving her 2 full sized peperami for lunch.
