  • Trunki - worth it or expensive extra?

We're going on holiday in a few months and I would love to get Isabel (4) a Trunki but just wondered what you all think of them and if they are worth it?

I just can't bring myself to buy one - I think they look fab but certainly at almost 3 S is in no way disciplined enough to take responsibility for her own bag, and I can get our stuff packed efficiently without one - we fly 3 times a year on average and I still haven't had a moment when I've felt lost without one - BUT at the same time we always have a buggy/stroller with us too that takes a lot of the strain. If we were without one of those I might see the benefit more.

The accessories are very cute but I also wonder how much of the trunki they take up when packed inside out of use?

I think Isabel would be ok with it and would love riding on it. We are taking the pushchair but it has a tiny basket and C will be going in the sling to go through security anyway. My main reason is to get the most out of the amount of hand luggage seeing as we have to pay for all the cases etc. & I think it would be fun for Isabel.

We have had ours for 2 years now & they have been well used.

Kids will go & pack their own toys/colouring & bedtime toys when we go away or they have a sleepover. They do hold quite a bit.

As for use as a ride on , it makes the long trek around the airport very easy.

M has had one since she's been 1 and it's fab IMO. I will say though, that you probably can't get as much as you would expect in there. We can go away for a weekend with it quite nicely, but anything over 3 days (baring in mind I probably take more than 3 days worth of clothes in case of accidents).

M hasn't ridden it about but we haven't been to an airport with her, and have always had the car, but when the times comes I can see it being useful.

They do a Gruffalo version now that I am going to just HAVE to get for No.2, as that would be unfair (on him, and myself) not to buy one. Laugh

I'm following this thread with interest as I've been thinking about getting one for Andrew...

I don't have any direct experience but a friend of mine has one for her 2.5 year old and says it is great. I don't think that they've used it at an airport yet though, just the odd weekend away.

    Both.

We have one of each of ours, perfect to carry all the bit they want cardies/jumper/ PJ if its a late flight, sweet, drinks, crayons etc.

They have fun at the airport if the flight is delayed, Trunki races are a big thing and others join in make the waiting better no winging. It also makes the long walks faster as i can pull them or the scoot off the miles go quicker than on foot.

We also use them when its raining at home.  There are loads of game you can play.

Edit to add They cant go in the hold they are hand luggage only.  They will not withstand the hold pressure unless unlocked and open!!!

I've often seen kids having great fun with these at the airport - H has been looking on in jealousy! Will certainly be getting one for sarah when she is older!

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply (pc died) but thanks for the replies. I think I'll be talking H into getting one for Isabel. I'd love the Gruffalo one but she'll no doubt want the pink one.

We had just literally the day before decided they werne't worth it when my PIL bought one for W. We've not used it on trips (too awkward IMO with lots of luggage, until the LO is old enough to pull it him/herself), but he loves to ride it in our living room and put things in it...

Yep, I think they´re brilliant! We live abroad and so fly fairly frequently. I was recently in the UK with my 2 daughters and had to fly back on my own with them - no mean feat since I am currently pregnant with twins and my belly is huge. I decided to get them a Trunkie each and I have to say they were worth every penny. I had my youngest (just turned 2) in my Quinny Zapp, which is a lovely light buggy, but has no basket - so not ideal for all the clutter I had to carry. I therefore had my handluggage in a rucksack that I could carry easily on my back, then my eldest (4.5) was able to pull her Trunkie along all my herself, whilst I attached the other Trunkie to the handles of the buggy so that it pulled along easily behind me. I honestly don´t know quite how I´d have managed without them.

The kids also love them - my H pulled both girls along on them in the airport when he picked us up at the other end, and they got so many admiring looks!!
