Hello those that are interested and those that read my thread last week too.
So session 2 was yesterday. We dicussed the pros and cons of consultant led units, Midwife led units, birthing centres and home births. It was interesting to hear peoples views and also the differences between hospitals in the surrounding area. The teacher brought in a blow up pool for us to look at and we talked about what happens at a home birth and the logisitics of having room, filling emptying the pool etc. She talked to us about doulas, independent midwives and community midwives. We also discussed water births a lot too. She also discussed due dates and the fact that it is really more like a due month.
We learnt a couple of light massage techniques and then tried them on our partner and vice versa. We did a couple of relaxation scripts and have a copy of the extended version of what is on the cd. The extended text inlcludes script about the rainbow colours and is useful for partners to read. We were also read the Daddy's promise and a Mother's conversation with her unborn child.
We came away with handouts on Home Birth, Post natal depression, a welcome to hypnobirthing, Due dates, Belly mapping, facial relaxation, the readings and the Rainbow relaxation script. We also have an emotion and fear release assignment where we have to list any limiting thoughts and issues we both have, writing them separately and then comparing and discussing between us. This is a private exercise and won't be shared with the class.
Last week our handouts were affirmations for an Easy, comfortable pregnancy, achieving your birthing goals, sleep breathing, the rationale for hypnosis in birthing.
H enjoys the sessions too but expected more breathing techniques etc. I said that I guess this would be coming in the next few sessions.
So far I am really enjoying it and finding it really useful. It is very interesting to discuss all the things we do and I feel I am not coming away bombarded with new things to practise every day. I feel very positive about the birth and it has been helpful to meet other likeminded people.
Hope this is useful to those that read it.
Installment 3 coming to a baby talk page near you next week!!
