  • OT Help from photographer HIB's please

I am thinking of buying my husband a DLSR for his birthday and need some help

    1) Which one would you recommend for a beginner?
    2) Do I need just the camera or is a kit better?
    3) Where is the best place to buy one? Preferably online

Anything else I need to know?

    Many thanks

    What is your budget?

What will he be mainly photographing?

Does he have any phoographic software manipulation knowledge?

These answers are based on my own camera preferences(Canon)...although I do not own the 450.....

    1)....Canon 450

2)....better lenses than come as standard are recommended IMO

    3).....www.warehouseexpress.co.uk

As Peter suggests: try Warehouse Express or Jacob's Digital - though Warehouse Express is usually slightly cheaper.

Exactly what Peter said! The Canon 450d is a great starter DSLR, and would also agree with Peter that it's worth buying a better lens that the type which usually come in the "set" kits.

    I would recommend this Kit

Canon EOS 450D with EF-S 18-200mm IS Lens Kit

As the others have said though a better lens is an advantage but if he is just a beginner this has an alround lens then you can expand from there. This is a below £1000 kit but the lens is very versatile. if your budget is greater than £1000 i would look at a better lens.

Warehouse express i have always found to have very reasonable prices but its still worth googling to check.

    Dont forget memory card.

Ice Queen, like it's been said, the canon 450D/shopping at warehouseexpress, is a good starter if he's new to using a dslr,  but to be honest, if he's really new to dslr's, you might do well to let him start off with a kit lens, and pay for some lessons for him to learn how to use the camera.  Then he'll work out what lenses he will prefer to shoot with. Also, get him a good camera bag. I like crumplers for my personal use.  If you guys are down my way, I'd be happy to set up a photo safari with you guys at Marwell or some place like that, lol. Good luck!
