  • Is it normal for my 21 month old to have no interest at all in tv?

In fact he never has. I have tried to get him into various things at some point and before he was 1 he used to have his milk whilst watching Thomas tank so everyone bought him Thomas tank stuff as we said he seems to like it but no, when anything is on, he may glance at it, but I have never seen him watching it for more than 1 minute before he gets bored and walks away. Sometimes I try and get him to sit on my knee and watch something, but he is straight back down.

All other mothers say their LO's T's age love tv so much and would all watch it for hours if they could. Why is my LO not like this? Any ideas? Anyone else experience this? I know I should say it is a good thing but a bit of tv now and again eg when I am trying to cook his meal would be nice rather than whinging for me to be with him!

    Thanks

I would say so yes, Emily is 23mths and is only now really "getting" telly, before she owuld glance at it, occassionally watch a few minute sor so but not that interested. But she will now watch most of an episode of ITNG, she does know most of the character names on Cbeebies, Playhouse Disney and NickJnr though so she must be aware of it.

my mum said I was the same, didn't want to watch telly so she had no break Laugh  eventually she did find  a programme I liked (can't remember what it was now).  what have you tried?  many kids that age love ITNG and my DS loved Thomas, Bob the builder, Elmo's world and postman pat at that age.  it may just need finding the right thing.  i've seen videos/dvds that have a bunch of different programmes on, may be worth having a go and see one he likes?

W is younger by a month and I'd say taht only in the past 3 months he's expressed any interest in the telly, and that is mostly theme songs. In the past 2-4 weeks, he's started sitting and watching for maybe 10 minutes at a time (as opposed to trying to pet the screen, watching 30 seconds before running off for a toy, etc) - which is a bit worrying for me. It's been a good background half-hearted distraction for him, e.g., when daddy goes to work in the morning, but I think he's now getting happier to watch, which make me worry it's on too much. (skulks off to hide her lazy mummy-ness...)

I'd say it's nothing to worry about, and actually a blessing in a lot of ways.

ITNG from an early age, he likes the beginning music a lot, but once it properly starts he is off wandering around (he never sits still actually!). I have tried Thomas, Bob the builder, show me show me (as that does have some things in I know he will understand) and peppa pig. These are the only ones I have regularly tried just incase he latches onto one! Sometimes I just leave it on eg if I am washing up but he will normally come to find me, whinging at the kitchen stairgate. I have tried plonking him on the sofa, sitting him on a stool in front of it. The only times he does watch it for a couple of minutes is when he is with a car or train on the table that the tv is on, with his thumb in his mouth but this means he is right in front of the screen!!

My son had no interest in telly either. He went through a phase of watching Shrek constantly, sometimes 8 times a day at about 26 months. This lasted about 2 months. He's 30 months now and won't watch tv unless Lady Gaga comes on the music channel as he's obsessed with her. Im pleased he doesn't like tv as he is constantly active but it doesn't help me get chores done.

T has no interest in telly and that suits me just fine!  We don't watch it a lot at home anyway.  He will look at the animals on animal plant, but just to make the noise and then walks off again!

I'd say it's normal, my little girl is 21 months this week and she will stop what she is doing for about 10 seconds when the ITNG music comes on but she never watches beyond that. She just loves running around and doing her own thing.

My older daughter at this age would sit for hours watching Cbeebies.
