As I have had two emergency c sections I have been told that if I fall pregnant again I will have no choice but to have an elective section. Is this true in all areas or does it depend on where you live?

No plans for a third just yet but would be interested to know whether this is the norm

I've been told 3 so it might vary from place to place.

Thanks pip.  If we do have another baby it will be our last so I would love the chance of trying for vbac one last time(even though I kind of know its unlikely to happen)

If you google for VBA2C you should find quite a bit of information x

I'm in North London and was advised that if I have another section next time, it will mean a definite section for number 3.

    Thanks Everyone,

Google seems to suggest that it possible so it must be hospital policy. I suppose I could move!!! Not sure H would be too happy!

I was told after my second that if I had a third it would have to be elective.  No plans for another though!

    Hi

I had my second emergency section last week (after going in with hopes of a vbac and even getting to 10cm!) they told me afterwards they wouldnt support me for a third pregnancy for a VBAC they would recommend an elective...i know how you feel i was gutted missing out on the vbac.  no plans for a third for us at moment although no2 is only 10 days!!

Well there's no such thing as 'no choice' - your hospital may have a policy about what they would normally offer people but they're just guidelines and there's clearly no way they could force you to have a caesarean if you'd made an informed decision that you didn't want that.  Jemago has given you some links to some good information - have a look through them because obviously there are some increased involved in labouring when you've had two previous sections - then take that information in and speak to an obstetrician about it (you might want to ask a bit more about why you think you had to have a caesarean last times too in case there's a reason why they think it might be more likely to happen again).  They can only offer you their opinion about the options but it's your body and your baby and your decision about your birth.
