Oh hell, my church is not booked... I thought it was!

18months ago I rang my church to book the date and my priest (who I have known for years) told me he was retiring summer 2009 and I would have to have the new priest marry us in the summer 2010. That's ok, I said, so he said they will be having a stand in priest until the permenant one starts in probably february and to ring then and confirm the date but he didn't think the new priest would have a problem in marrying us. I rang my church last night to confirm the booking and the stand in priest said the bishop hasn't appointed any one yet and now it will probably Easter before the new one starts.

I get married on august 5th and I need to send invites out in the next couple of months at the latest and I am panicking because they obviously need the church details on and well, what if the new priest says he won't marry us , then what will I do? This is stressing me out now. I have everything else completely sorted and booked apart from this. Do I need to get a grip? Help me!!!!

I'd ring them back and be straight with them and ask!

Surely they should allow to still book as long as the present priest or the old priest said it was okay as what about brides who are getting married before Easter or earlier than yourselves.

Thanks for replies girls. I think I will leave it a couple of weeks and then ring back. I'm sure there are other brides that are in same position as me regarding the priest so I will plow on with that it then.
