    Giving notice....

    Me & OH gave notice last august at our local registry office, if you get married outside of the borough do you have to give notice again? TIA xx

    I think it goes by Council/Local Authority area (or is does up here anyway) so if we were to get married in another council/LA area we would have to reapply to that Council/LA.

    I think we have to give notice in the authority that we live, but we're getting married in a different area - so we give notice in Newcastle and then sort out the details of the ceremony times, etc, with the Northumberland registrars.

    Hiya. The giving notice is in the area that you live. However when you give notice you have to give the place and date of the ceremony, and if that changes you have to give notice again. So, you will have to give notice again, but in your own area - and also of course you will need to book the registrar in the area that you're planning to get married.

    We gave notice in Reading but are getting married in Bristol.  You give notice in the town you live so I don't think that's the problem.

    Doesn't it only last for 12 months though??

    Sounds like you've been having a look around at your options.  Any decisions?

    so it depends on the address you gave the registry office when you gave notice. if you gave them the address of the place you are getting married (whether inside or outside your council area) you don't have to give notice again. but if you gave a different address, you do have to give notice again. you give notice in the area where you live, and they send the documents over to the area where you are getting married. so don't need to give notice there as well - always in the area where you live.

    and yes it is only valid for 12 months. HTH xx

    Hiya GB,

    Yeah we have been looking around at options today, my dad is completely blanking me and my mum is now taking his side saying that I should have thought about his feelings, hmmm just like he has thought about mine and my OH's! We are just planning on going away somewhere with our best friends who are also our BM & BM. We have looked into Gretna, they have got some really good deals and a few other places. I have been on the phone to the dress shop this afternoon, they are trying to find out when my dress is due to arrive, i can't book anything until I know when its here, so its just a waiting game at the minute!

     

    Thanks for all your replies, We told them that we were getting married at the registry office where we gave notice so it looks like we are going to have to give notice again!

    sorry for the duff info lainey.  Things are different up here.  I have to give notice to the Local Authority where the hotel is but thats different to the LA where I live.
