Cake just isn't a priority for me, so I was planning to do some M&S tiers - the only thing is that I've heard they're pretty shallow - dunno whether anyone cane confirm/deny (so it looks a bit mad if you stack them on top of each other).

i was put off the M&S cakes because the ones i saw were quite shallow and stuck to a cake board, i wanted a stacked cake and was worried that i'd end up making a mess of them if i tried to take them off the board.

I have not read the whole thread, but this is what we are doing:

We have ordered a three tier cake that feeds 60 people, it will look like this

I have ordered another, undecorated square fruit tier to feed another 60 people, this will obviously not be on show and will just be kept in the kitchen cut up and served, during the eve reception - bargain!

By the way choocywoocydohdah's quoted me £700 for the cake we wanted.....!

    stupid darn ticker never works!

I'm quite lucky as my mum is making our's as she's been a cake maker for yrs. But if for some unknown reason she cant we'll be going to m&s, then decorating it ourselves.

I am with a lot of you on the 'its just a cake'! I really dont want to spend a fortune on something that ultimatly is going to end up squashed into the carpet!

I have worked with lots of couples that have had M & S cakes. They are brilliant! Cant praise them enough! They are really moist and taste good

Thanks Claire, that exact cake was going to cost £360 - 400 from a cake company- but I am  now getting it for free!

I took the design to my uncle who is a professional chocolatier and he agreed that if my Nan would make the 3 tiers he would decorate it for me as a wedding present (I know that I am very lucky to have such a talented uncle!)  I have ordered the extra fruit cake tier from my local bakery......that is costing us about £45

I must admit, if I didn't have the talented uncle I would have probably paid for the cake from a cake company anyway amd paid the full whack as I love cake and I always get excited about other people's cakes!

    Sad person icon required! Cake

We're having cupcakes! 90 big ones (vanilla, chocolate and raspberry ripple) and 90 mini ones are costing around £150 from here http://www.suffolkcupcakes.co.uk/

We went for a taster session last week and they were to die for!!

Kent factor sounds pretty bad but the 'London' factor is even worse!!! wedding is in Richmond but most of our suppliers are from closer to London so the prices are steep! this is our cake - 4 tiers - has to feed 200 people.

We're paying 600!!!! i am now v annoyed i spent so much on a cake but the tasting samples were absolutely delicious xx

we are getting our cake from M&S as we are spending our budget on other things that are more important to us. Our cake will cost  £37  for two tiers and we are going to decorate it ourselves with flowers etc as it comes already iced, on boards etc

We've gone for an M&S cake.  Fruit top tier & 2 sponge bottom tiers.  Comes to £84.  We've gone for it in ivory & are using a bit of our own purple ribbon to decorate & a couple of flowers that the florist will supply.  1 cake to feed 144 people for under £100?  Bargain!  & M&S cakes are gorgeous!!! x
